Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy told to worry about LIV Golf player who’s better than Xander Schauffele at the Masters Tournament

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are seemingly the two most likely winners of the Masters Tournament in two weeks.

Scheffler is the number one golfer in the world, according to the rankings, and he’s returned to form at the Houston Open.

Meanwhile, McIlroy has played better than anyone else this season and is probably the most determined to win at Augusta National out of the entire field.

The pair have now been told to watch out for one LIV Golf player who’s been described as a “top three talent” on the planet.

Golf expert thinks Jon Rahm is one to watch at the Masters

The Masters has been full of surprises throughout the years, with several unlikely winners, but it does often come down to the best players on Sunday.

Jon Rahm might not be discussed in that company now that he’s on the LIV Golf tour but there’s no doubting his ability.

Indeed, golf expert Keith Stewart has suggested that Rahm could pose the biggest threat to Scheffler and McIlroy at Augusta.

Stewart explained: “Jon Rahm, I would always be worried about. I think Jon Rahm, no matter where he’s playing, is a top three talent in the world. I just think that he is.

“Maybe Xander [Schauffele] is fourth but Jon Rahm is an unbelievable talent, and I think that he can win at any venue at any time. It would be nice if he had more competition to push him, but we don’t live in that world.”

Jon Rahm disappointed in the major championships last season

Rahm’s debut season on the LIV Golf tour went well as he won the individual championship ahead of Joaquin Niemann.

What didn’t go to plan for the Spaniard was his appearances in the four major championships, with only one top 10 finish.

Mitchell said: “Rahm had a very disappointing major season last year. You’ve got to remember, he came with flip-flops to the US Open. He didn’t play. He was tremendous to close at Troon.

“He was not good at the PGA. He was not good at defending at the Masters. And then all of those LIV guys got a chance at a fifth major last year – the gold medal. And we all know what happened there.

“With eight holes to go, I have no idea what happened, but Scottie Scheffler won the gold and Rahm didn’t even win a medal. He had a five-stroke lead on the gold.”
