Jon Rahm is one of the best players in the world but his popularity among golf fans probably doesn’t reflect that.
Rahm won his first PGA Tour event at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open and he became world number one after his victory at the 2020 Memorial Tournament.
He also has two major championships (2021 US Open and 2023 Masters) on his incredible resume, especially for a 30-year-old.
The key reason why Rahm is often not mentioned in conversations with Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy is that he plays on the LIV Golf tour – his move there in 2023 didn’t go down well at all.
But perhaps the Spaniard deserves more recognition and love from fans, as Grant Horvat pointed out recently.

Horvat is the most famous golf YouTuber and has worked with lots of top players from Tiger Woods to Phil Mickelson.
Speaking about his experience on the Johnny Talks podcast, he named Rahm as someone he has played alongside who is much more personable than people realize.
The LIV Golf star is a fierce competitor when it matters most but away from competition, he seems really likeable.
“I would say that whenever you film with a PGA Tour or LIV player or a pro that has had a lot of success and you shine them in a different light, where they are just hanging out having a good time, you see a completely different side to them.
“When they are competing week in and week out on the PGA Tour or LIV or whatever tour, you see this very serious side that is completely focused. They are not really talking or saying much. They are at work. They are in a highly stressful environment.
“Let’s take Jon Rahm for example. Jon and I text all the time and he’s such a nice guy. I love Jon. But if you watch Jon play, he plays with a lot of emotion and fire. He looks mad. And I see people giving him hate and stuff but he’s such a nice guy.
“If you go hang out with Jon or play with him, whenever you are filming a YouTube video, he is the best. He is talking trash. It’s so much fun. And he watched YouTube golf. Before I met Jon, he knew all about it.”
What happened when Grant Horvat played against Jon Rahm
Horvat played a stroke play match against Rahm at his home course, the Silverleaf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona last year.
Rahm gave the YouTuber a five-stroke advantage before the first hole and still managed to win.
Horvat is maybe not quite a PGA Tour-calibre player but he’s an excellent golfer in his own right and shot an even-par 72.
Unfortunately for him, Rahm shot an outstanding six-under 66 to claim victory by one shot. It was a ball-striking masterclass from the Spaniard as he didn’t even make many lengthy putts.
