USA vice-captain Kevin Kisner believes the International Team attempted to use gamesmanship when selecting the foursomes matches on day three of the Presidents Cup.

The United States Team bounced back during Saturday’s two sessions to take a lead heading into the singles. Jim Furyk’s side would eventually cruise to a tenth successive victory.

The Presidents Cup wasn’t without drama, however. Scottie Scheffler was involved in an incident with Tom Kim. Furthermore, Kisner and Camilo Villegas got into a heated exchange on day one.

Kisner has now suggested the International Team were deceptive when picking their foursome pairs during day three.

Speaking during the latest edition of the Smylie Show, Kisner suggested that Mike Weir’s decision to play Hideki Matsuyama first was a tactical ploy.

“They tried to pull some gamesmanship where Hideki was the last guy on the course but then first out in the afternoon, so it screwed all the pairings up,” Kisner said.

“Each guy has to be allowed 30 minutes from the end of their match before they can tee off, so I felt like the tour officials dropped the ball on that. Max Homa and Brian Harman got to hit 12 balls because they basically moved them up from where they were.”

Kisner added: “Max was like to me ‘, I hope we don’t miss the green’ I haven’t hit a chip all day because we got rushed to the first tee.”

International Team backed to win Presidents Cup

Despite another loss, Weir’s men showed signs of promise at Royal Montreal.

The Friday foursome matches demonstrated that the USA are beatable, and Billy Horschel believes it’s only a matter of time before the International Team triumphs.

“But nine years from now, I do believe the International side will have won it probably two or three times by then. I do believe the quality of players on the International side is getting better,” Horschel said.

“I do believe you need someone like Tom Kim to change things. Tom Kim could be the Severiano Ballesteros for the Internationals. With the passion he shows, the way he plays, and everything else, he’s carried that team emotionally over the last two Presidents Cups.”
