There were fireworks on the opening day of the Presidents Cup between two unlikely players in Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim as they went at it in Montreal.
Kim and Scheffler are known to be good friends off the golf course but when it comes down to winning in a Presidents Cup, that friendship went out the window early on.
In an explosive opening few holes, Scheffler and Kim went back and forth after holing a few big putts each.
Scheffler was heard asking Kim – quite loudly – ‘What was that?!’ in response to a huge ‘Let’s goooo’ from Kim on the same hole.
That started off a run of holes where tensions were high and after Kim and partner Sungjae Im stormed ahead to the next green at one point, things threatened to boil over.

Of course, getting on the wrong side of the world number one might not be the smartest strategy and in the end, Scheffler and Russell Henley won 3&2 anyway.
And out on the course in the midst of the action, it’s been revealed what Team USA vice-captain Kevin Kisner said to counterpart Camilo Villegas about the incident.
What Kevin Kisner said to Camilo Villegas after Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler incidents
Taking to X to update the situation and comment on suggestions of a conversation between Kisner and Villegas, journalist Dan Rappaport has shared what Kisner said.
At the end of the round, Scheffler commented on the incident with Kim and laughed it off.
However, there is no doubt that the situation added a bit of needle to what is normally a pretty reserved tournament in the main.
For Team USA and Scheffler, it mattered little in the end as the US dominated the Internationals to leave them with a huge task already.
Kim, meanwhile, is likely to have been told by either his captain or a vice-captain about his behaviour.
