Jim Furyk’s United States team for the 2024 Presidents Cup is full of stars. Here we have ranked them from twelfth to first.

The top two players in the Official World Golf Ranking, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, are expected to lead the US to victory at The Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau and Max Homa all have winning records from their previous Presidents Cup appearances.

And, there are plenty of talented rookies with a point to prove, such as Wyndham Clark and Sahith Theegala.

The Golfing Gazette ranks the 12 United States players at the 2024 Presidents Cup. Who will take the top spot?

Ranking the United States Presidents Cup players

12. Brian Harman

If Brian Harman is arguably the twelfth-best player, it must be an incredible team – and that’s exactly what Furyk has at his disposal.

The 2023 Open champion is inside the top 20 in the OWGR and, while he is making his Presidents Cup debut, he scored two points for the US at last year’s Ryder Cup.

11. Max Homa

Max Homa would be last on a lot of people’s lists as he is in poor form at the moment. He missed the cut at the recent Procore Championship and has since split up with his coach Mark Blackburn.

Homa’s saving grace is that he went undefeated in four matches at the 2022 Presidents Cup and scored 3.5 points at the last Ryder Cup when many of his teammates struggled.

10. Sam Burns

Sam Burns will be looking to avoid a repeat of his performance at the 2022 Presidents Cup. The 28-year-old played five matches and failed to win a single one.

The good news is that he comes into this event in fine form, having finished in the top 15 in his last four tournaments, and he could get his first point on the board as early as Thursday afternoon with Patrick Cantlay as his fourball teammate.

9. Russell Henley

Russell Henley has never played in a Presidents Cup or a Ryder Cup but that should not phase him. He is about as steady as they come – in a good way.

Henley’s accuracy makes him the perfect foursomes partner and he could easily win three or four points for the US this week.

8. Keegan Bradley

We will never know whether Keegan Bradley would have made Furyk’s team anyway but his win at the BMW Championship seems to have been the difference maker.

The 28-year-old was excellent at Castle Pines and should be full of confidence at Royal Montreal. He is not short of passion, either.

7. Tony Finau

Tony Finau will be disappointed not to have won on the PGA Tour this year, having done so in the three previous seasons, but he came close on multiple occasions – including a third at the US Open.

He carries with him a winning record from two past Presidents Cup appearances and will lead the US team out with Schauffele in the Thursday fourballs.

6. Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark is a difficult player to assess. On one hand, his world ranking (six) indicates that he is one of the best players in the world and should dominate at the Presidents Cup.

On the other, his dreadful major record – besides the 2023 US Open – and mediocre performance at the 2023 Ryder Cup suggests that he is not made for the big occasions. Who knows?

5. Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala still has only one PGA Tour win – the 2023 Fortinet Championship – but he has risen from 32nd to 11th in the OWGR in 2024.

The rookie is widely expected to make a name for himself at Royal Montreal this week and it is hard to disagree. He will play alongside Morikawa on Thursday afternoon.

4. Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa is only 27 but he has already competed in two Ryder Cups and one Presidents Cup. His overall record in the three events is 6-4-1.

It has not been the world number four’s finest season however his second-place finish at the Tour Championship suggests that his game is in top shape.

3. Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is undoubtedly the best golfer on the planet. He won seven PGA Tour events this season and earned over $60 million in prize money.

But the great Tiger Woods often underperformed in team environments and the same can be said for Scheffler in his career to date.

2. Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay is an excellent player who steps up even more when representing the United States. He has scored 11.5 points in four appearances at the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup (two each).

His first teammate is Sam Burns but it would be a real surprise if he does not play – and win – at least two matches with his good friend Schauffele.

1. Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele’s 2024 season might not compare to Scheffler’s but he won two majors this year – the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.

He is unquestionably the next-best golfer in the world and his Presidents Cup record means that he could be the top player in this Presidents Cup.
