LIV Golf failed in an attempt to strike a deal with the DP World Tour, and Justin Rose has shared his initial thoughts on the matter.
Currently, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are fighting to secure their Ryder Cup eligibility, and the LIV stars have yet to repay outstanding DP World Tour fines.
Rahm and Hatton have lodged appeals to ensure their participation in upcoming DP World Tour events. However, doubt remains, and both players are reluctant to conform to the sanctions.
Rahm’s fines total $1 million, and the Spaniard—along with Hatton—has been penalised for every LIV event, which has run alongside the DP World Tour.
Justin Rose reacts to LIV-DP World Tour deal attempt

With Rahm and Hatton in limbo, LIV launched an attempt to strike a deal with the DP World Tour that would clear the fines.
However, the Wentworth-based tour declined, and the saga continues.
Rose, speaking ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at the famous Surrey course, has since shared his thoughts on the ongoing standoff.
“I feel like it’s splitting hairs when they pay out of the money that they’ve already been paid or if they’re going to be — if LIV are going to pay it anyway,” Rose explained. “I feel like, for me, it’s a cost of doing business. If you’ve been paid, take a portion; pay it if that’s still your objective to play. Seems like a fairly straightforward equation to me.”
“That’s the first I’ve really kind of heard that that is how it played out, so it’s hard to digest it in the moment. Obviously, one scenario makes it very easy for the players. There’s no sacrifice for them. Maybe that’s what people want, which is for the player to go. Okay, it’s on me. I understand that the rules and regulations are there to that’s what the rules and regulations are there for.”
The Englishman continued: “They’re there to prevent everybody from doing that, which is what the Tour has to do. They have to protect their interests, as well.
“If it’s too easy just to flit about and make decisions, go here and there, then I think that would be to the detriment of the DP World Tour. To find a common ground and a happy — well, there’s no happy medium, I suppose, but to give everybody an opportunity to support the Tour if they can and be able to clearly make the decisions that they’ve made to go and play golf where they want to play for huge amounts of money.
“There’s still a pathway to be part of the DP World Tour, and I think that that’s more than fair. It’s not like the PGA TOUR, where you are absolutely written off. So, for me, it’s a very fair stance to take.”
Justin Rose spot on with LIV Golf assessment
Rose is correct; it feels as if the authorities are splitting hairs at this point.
LIV could offer Rahm and Hatton a $1 million bonus, which is then used to appease the DP World Tour fines. The fact that this hasn’t happened indicates that this issue runs deeper.
The LIV duo have an issue with why they’ve been sanctioned, which is why their debts remain unsettled.
The DP World Tour has offered a fair route back into Ryder Cup contention. It is a mystery why both players are attempting to take the moral high ground.
Pay the fines, settle up, and make Luke Donald’s life considerably easier before the Bethpage Black event.
