Wentworth Golf Club: A look at the European Ryder Cup headquarters and iconic BMW PGA Championship venue

Wentworth is a lucrative golf club located in Virginia Water, Surrey, which has hosted the BMW PGA Championship every year since 2005.

Before the 2005 edition of the BMW PGA Championship, Wentworth was the venue for the event’s previous iterations: the Volvo PGA Championship and Whyte and Mackay PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy, Billy Horschel, Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton, Francesco Molinari, and Luke Donald are all previous winners at the famous Surrey venue.

Wentworth Golf Club green fees

Wentworth Golf Club doesn’t allow outsider green fees. Members or guests are the only ones eligible to play. To play the infamous West Course, guest green fees start at £195 in the winter and £360 in the summer. The cost includes a caddie.

How much is membership at Wentworth Golf Club?

The membership price rose considerably in 2015 after a Thai consortium, Reignwood, bought Wentworth.

The debenture is £175,000, while the annual subscription is £16,000.

BMW PGA Championship

The BMW PGA Championship is the DP World Tour’s flagship event and is held at Wentworth every year.

Ryder Cup

Wentworth held the tenth Ryder Cup in 1953. The USA ran out narrow winners, beating Europe by a point.

HSBC Match-play

The European Tour’s 2006 HSBC World Match Play was held at Wentworth. Paul Casey ran out victorious in a field which included Tiger Woods.

The West Course record is 62, which has been recorded three times.

Who designed Wentworth Golf Club?
