Jon Rahm has locked horns with the DP World Tour in recent weeks as the Spaniard’s 2025 Ryder Cup hopes hang by a thread.

The two-time major winner needs to compete in three more DP World Tour events to maintain his membership and eligibility for the 2025 Bethpage Black event.

Rahm, however, has yet to pay his outstanding fines, which cast his participation in next week’s Spanish Open into doubt.

Yet, after a last-ditch appeal was lodged, Rahm will compete in his native Spain as well as the Alfred Dunhill Links and Andalucia Masters.

In a new twist, LIV Golf has attempted to strike a deal with the DP World Tour, which would alleviate the issue altogether.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Bob Harig, LIV Golf has attempted to strike a deal which would wipe out Rahm’s fines; the DP World Tour has declined.

It’s believed Rahm owes around $1 million in fines and that a similar number could emerge in 2025. Harig also details how the Spaniard feels about the current situation.

“Last week, Rahm was ready to walk away from his country’s Open and the Ryder Cup over the issue,” Harig writes.

“He questions why the rules have changed, allowing him to appeal his fines, while other players earlier this year had no choice but to pay them in order to compete.” The U.K. arbitration ruling last year set the precedent, one that the DP World Tour is abiding by—to its own detriment, Rahm believes.”

Justin Rose and Padraig Harrington urge Jon Rahm to comply with DP World Tour regulations

Everyone associated with Europe wants Rahm on the 2025 Ryder Cup team. The Spaniard is arguably Luke Donald’s star man and could play a massive role in claiming a first victory in 12 years on American soil.

Justin Rose has urged Rahm to comply with DP World Tour regulations. “There’s a pathway to play the Ryder Cup if he wants it, and I think that’s all the DP World Tour can do,” Rose said on the matter. “They have their interests to protect, and I still think that it’s a doable situation should the player want to do it enough.”

Padraig Harrington also believes Rahm should settle up and make himself available for selection when Europe travel to Long Island in 12 months.

It’s a complex scenario, and it’s a relief Rahm has given himself time after appealing. Hopefully, both sides can come to some resolution before the 2025 season gets underway.
