Golf is back in action with a bang this weekend with events on LIV, the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour all going on, while the Solheim Cup is also kicking off.

For golf fans, it’s just what’s needed after last week saw next to no golf played and a notable lull.

However, the next few weeks promise to be exciting as some of the top players in the world get into some big tournaments.

One of those big players is Jon Rahm, who goes for LIV glory this weekend up against Joaquin Niemann.

But for Rahm, there are seemingly bigger issues at large as his future in terms of playing in the DP World Tour events – and more crucially, the Ryder Cup – seems to be at stake.

Rahm has this week been speaking about playing sufficient events to qualify for the 2025 team and Justin Rose has even advised Rahm to do what’s needed to be involved.

However, things might not be so easy for the Spaniard if DP Tour officials have anything to do with it.

Rahm has admitted he’s entered into the upcoming Spanish Open as he seeks to play his way into the Ryder Cup thinking.

But looking at the stance of the DP World Tour officials, it looks like Rahm’s entry into the Spanish Open might be pointless after all.

DP World Tour want Jon Rahm to pay fines before being allowed to play

According to reports which quote a source from the DP Tour, Rahm may not be allowed to play in the Spanish Open despite him entering.

In quotes provided by a DP World Tour spokesperson, Rahm has outstanding fines which until they’re paid, means he won’t be playing.

“Jon has outstanding sanctions for breaches of the DP World Tour’s conflicting tournament regulation. Until those outstanding sanctions are resolved, he is ineligible to play in a DP World Tour event.”

Rahm is among a number of players who were fined by the DP World Tour. The likes of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton were all in the same boat.

Rahm should just pay up

This is clearly a game of cat and mouse from Rahm and the others involved now but yet again, it’s dominating the conversation above the actual golf.

Right now, given he was paid around £400m to join LIV, Rahm should just pay this fine and get on with playing in the events he can.

Rahm is clearly making a point right now but ultimately, it might end up costing him his place in the Ryder Cup.
