The Open Championship at Royal Portrush was a roaring success, with Scottie Scheffler stealing the show.
Scheffler dominated the major championship season, ending with a fantastic success at The Open in Northern Ireland.
He won two of the four major championships in 2025, with Scheffler now a four-time winner after his PGA Championship title and his double success at The Masters.
Scheffler thanked the Royal Portrush fans for their support during his latest victory, with those in attendance really enjoying the event despite their home favourite Rory McIlroy falling short.
The Northern Irishman did, however, have his moment in the spotlight earlier this season, triumphing at The Masters to complete the career grand slam.

How many people watched Scottie Scheffler win The Open on TV on Sunday
Sunday at The Masters averaged 12.707 million viewers this year, as McIlroy clinched the green jacket at Augusta National for the first time.
And The Open’s figures for the same day have now emerged, as shared by Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal.

He wrote on X: “NBC draws a little more than 4 million viewers for Scottie Scheffler’s dominant win at Portrush on Sunday (streaming included). That’s up big from 3.390M last year (Schauffele) and the best since 2022 at St Andrews.”
Dan Rapaport suggests what most people think when watching Scottie Scheffler
The Open will be delighted with the total, particularly given that Scheffler never really looked like giving up his lead from day two.
He was one shot back after Thursday but one ahead after Friday, and quickly turned that into a four-shot lead on Saturday, winning by that total on Sunday.
Rich Beem accused Scheffler of boring golf as he closed in on the Claret Jug, but Dan Rapaport has now defended the world number one in that regard.
After seeing the viewing figures, he wrote on X: “Scheffler runaways have done pretty solid ratings this year. Seems more people enjoy watching greatness than find it boring…”
The boring verdicts may just continue if and when Scheffler continues winning, but he really won’t be bothered.
Shane Lowry thinks McIlroy will regret calling Scheffler inevitable, but that is simply what the American is at this moment in time.
