Scottie Scheffler produced another exceptional performance to win his second major of the year and first Open Championship in fine style.

The world number one ate up everything Royal Portrush had to offer and in the end, won by a comfortable four strokes from fellow American, Harris English.

Scheffler had been in fine form all week and nothing changed over his final 18 holes as he went round in three under to seal the deal.

Undoubtedly the best player in the world, Scheffler is going from strength to strength it seems and heading into 2026, he needs just the US Open to complete the career grand slam.

Scheffler is very much at the top of his game, both on and off the course, and speaking immediately after his win, he had some words for the Northern Irish fans.

Scottie Scheffler’s first words after winning The Open at Royal Portrush

Scottie Scheffler is a world class operator on the golf course but it is off it where he really comes into his own at times.

There is no sign of boasting or over confidence from Scheffler, simply a love for the game and a desire to compete.

Indeed, speaking immediately after his win, Scheffler made sure to find time to thank everyone he could, including the fans out on course.

“Thank you so much for the fans this week for all the support. I know I wasn’t the fan favourite today but I did hear a lot of USA and Dallas, Texas chants so I appreciate you coming out to support. Overall it has been a great week. The fan support all week was tremendous, it was a ton of fun to play here. I got to play with Shane the first couple of days and you guys coming out and supporting Shane the way you did was really special and it was such a fun week to be able to play in front of a great crowd,” Scheffler commented.

“To my family, starting with my wife and son, thank you so much for the support. I couldn’t do any of this without you, I love you very much and can’t wait to get home and celebrate. To my parents and the rest of the team, Teddy, Blake, Phil, everybody at home. I can’t thank you guys enough, I feel like I have the best support team I could possibly have. Everybody does such a good job of working together, everyone is so humble and they just do a really good job. Thank you all very much and especially you guys at home.

“To the agronomy team this week, this place was in great condition. The golf course played amazing, it was extremely healthy turf. It really was a tremendous week.

“Thanks so much to the R&A, you guys do such a great job of supporting the players so well, especially as an American player coming over to a foreign country. You guys do such a good job all the way from the locker room, to the food and beverage, all the way to the club house. Just making this week really easy and special for all of us, so thank you so much for such a great week.”

Is Scottie Scheffler the best golfer since Tiger Woods?

It’s a subjective view but right now, it’s hard to think of anyone who has been this good since Woods was in his prime.

Players have come and gone with fleeting periods of high performance and someone like Rory McIlroy has been on top of their game for a decade now.

But this last three years from Scheffler is something special and in all honesty, is the best stretch of golf we’ve seen since Tiger started to fall away.

Right now, anyone who beats Scottie Scheffler in any event is effectively coming close to winning, that’s how good he is.

Ultimately, Scheffler seems to have figured out nearly every aspect of the game of golf and for the foreseeable future at least, he’s going to be the man to beat.
