Brian Harman has named one of the USA’s all-time great match-play stars ahead of the upcoming Presidents Cup in Montreal.

The diminutive lefty was picked for Jim Furyk’s USA side despite missing out on the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.

Harman has been backed to star at Royal Montreal Golf Club just 12 months after he featured for the USA at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

One player who won’t be in attendance, however, is Justin Thomas. And Harman is the latest player to laud the two-time major winner as one of the USA’s all-time great match-play players.

Thomas was disappointed by his Presidents Cup snub after securing the last spot at the Tour Championship.

Furyk’s decision was certainly bold, and Harman has now lauded Thomas’ team golf credentials, which perhaps throws Furyk’s call under the spotlight once more.

“Justin Thomas is an all-timer for team golf, I do want to say that,” Harman told the Fore Play Podcast. “He’s the greatest locker room guy. He’s the greatest team golf guy you could ever meet. He’s incredible. A guy that’s done it all, he’s a world-beater who’s won two majors. For him to care as much as he does about an exhibition, he’s unreal.”

Justin Thomas should have been selected for Presidents Cup

Thomas’ season, on the whole, has been largely disappointing. However, there were promising signs, particularly toward the back end of the campaign.

The American produced some scintillating golf during the Scottish Open and Open Championship. Furthermore, the 31-year-old did exceptionally well to earn a spot in the Tour Championship.

Of course, there have been low points, but the positive signs were there, and Furyk could’ve relied on Thomas to regain his brilliant best in Montreal.

Now, the pressure is firmly on the likes of Max Homa – who is out of form – and Keegan Bradley to repay Furyk’s faith when the USA take on Mike Weir’s International side in two weeks.
