Justin Thomas was the highest profile name to miss out on Jim Furyk’s Presidents Cup team, and the two-time major winner has now broken his silence.
Furyk named six more players, including Keegan Bradley and Max Homa, to join those who had automatically qualified for the event at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Thomas wanted to make the team but will now watch on from the sidelines as the USA take on Mike Weir’s International side.
Thomas has since posted on Instagram and responded to his omission.
Justin Thomas reacts to Presidents Cup snub

In a long-winded message, Thomas initially congratulated Scottie Scheffler on his FedEx Cup win at the end of what was a remarkable season for the world number one.
“Massive congrats to Scottie Scheffler on an incredible and inspiring season,” Thomas wrote. “He has proven to be the game’s best week in and week out, very deserving of him winning the FedEx Cup.”
The 31-year-old then went on to share his thoughts on his Presidents Cup snub.
“I’m obviously bummed to not be joining the boys in Canada for the Presidents Cup, but completely understanding,” Thomas added.
“Jim has put together a great team. I will be the first one pulling for them and watching, while using it as motivation to not miss a team event again as they are some of my favorite weeks I’ve had.”
Jim Furyk plays it safe with Presidents Cup picks
Thomas’ omission isn’t surprising. The American has endured an up-and-down season and only just made the Tour Championship at East Lake.
In all honesty, Thomas didn’t really give Furyk too much to contemplate. Furyk played it extremely safe with his picks and clearly used the qualification standings as a guide.
And, of course, the 54-year-old was going to face criticism no matter who he picked.
Thomas didn’t perform well enough to make the team, and the American can have few complaints. Unfortunately, relying on form from yesteryear was only going to work so many times.
