Scottie Scheffler dominated the PGA Tour once again in 2025, helping to continue his impressive run as the world’s number one golfer.
With six victories on the Tour this season, Scottie Scheffler has once again proven he is the very best golfer playing today.
Back-to-back wins at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the PGA Championship were followed up by a win at the Memorial at the start of June.
Scheffler added The Open, the BMW Championship, and the Procore to his record for the year. Out of 20 events played on the PGA Tour, Scheffler made the top 10 17 times and never missed a cut.
While Rory McIlroy also had a very good year, it’s Scheffler who is breaking records and climbing the all-time leaderboard for weeks spent at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).

Scottie Scheffler climbs list of top 10 players with most weeks as number one
It will come as no surprise that Tiger Woods holds the record for the most weeks as world number one. The legendary golfer won 15 majors in his career and spent a whopping 683 weeks at the top of the OWGR.
That’s more than double his nearest rival, Greg Norman. The former LIV Golf supremo was quite the golfer in his day, and spent 331 weeks as world number one.
After winning two more majors in 2025, Scheffler has climbed above Dustin Johnson to claim third place in the list of time spent at number one in the world rankings. Scheffler’s figure will only keep rising as the year goes on, with no chance of him being toppled before the end of 2025. In fact, he’s likely to stay there until next summer, at least.
Johnson was there for 139 weeks. However, his move to the LIV Golf league and significant drop in form indicate that he will never get anywhere near the top spot again. Instead, he is now potentially vulnerable to being overtaken by McIlroy, who has 122 weeks at the top so far.
| Rank | Player | Weeks | Majors |
| 1 | Tiger Woods | 683 | 15 |
| 2 | Greg Norman | 331 | 2 |
| 3 | Scottie Scheffler | 159 | 4 |
| 4 | Dustin Johnson | 139 | 2 |
| 5 | Rory McIlroy | 122 | 5 |
| 6 | Nick Faldo | 97 | 6 |
| 7 | Seve Ballesteros | 61 | 5 |
| 8 | Luke Donald | 56 | 0 |
| 9 | Jon Rahm | 52 | 2 |
| 10 | Jason Day | 51 | 1 |
Behind them, we have legendary figures Nick Faldo (97 weeks) and Seve Ballesteros (56 weeks), with European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald also involved despite never winning a major in his career.
Spaniard Jon Rahm is in ninth in the table with 52 weeks at the top of the OWGR. Now he’s with LIV, he will struggle to add to that number, but with proposals put forward that would see LIV players given some ranking points in the future, there’s still a chance.
Rounding out the top 10 is Jason Day, who spent 51 weeks as world number one between 2015 and 2017, during a battle with Jordan Spieth for the accolade.

What is the current OWGR top 10 ahead of the PGA Championship?
PGA Tour stars dominate the OWGR at this moment in time, with LIV Golf events not currently recognised. As we said, that may change in the near future, but for now it is the likes of Scheffler and McIlroy who are taking centre stage.
The rankings operate on average points earned across tournaments played, with Scheffler racking up 19.8635 compared to McIlroy’s 10.9288 — a ludicrously unassailable lead right now.
Xander Schauffele has climbed up the charts after his win at the Baycurrent Classic. That was Schauffele’s first win of the season, and nudges him ahead of compatriot Russell Henley.
Tommy Fleetwood rounds out the top five, helped by his Tour Championship win and a consistent run of eight top 10 finishes and one runner-up spot in 2025.
| Ranking | Player | Avg points | Total points |
| 1 | Scottie Scheffler | 19.8635 | 834.26826 |
| 2 | Rory McIlroy | 10.9288 | 491.79551 |
| 3 | Xander Schauffele | 6.7190 | 268.75856 |
| 4 | Russell Henley | 5.9291 | 237.16491 |
| 5 | Tommy Fleetwood | 5.2716 | 268.84947 |
| 6 | JJ Spaun | 5.2699 | 274.03668 |
| 7 | Justin Thomas | 5.2540 | 231.17669 |
| 8 | Robert MacIntyre | 5.2255 | 271.72368 |
| 9 | Justin Rose | 4.5298 | 203.84064 |
| 10 | Collin Morikawa | 4.5068 | 198.29907 |
The likes of Maverick McNealy, Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama, and Ludvig Aberg have all dropped out of the top 10 throughout the year, while Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre, and JJ Spaun have risen.
We’ve also seen Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas drop from fourth and fifth respectively, to take up tenth and seventh spot.
Interestingly, as per Data Golf, a true representation of all golfers including LIV Golf players would see Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau claim a place in the top 10.
