Team USA’s four male golfers did their country proud at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Golfing Gazette now predicts who will make the next Olympic team.

World number one Scottie Scheffler (-19) won the gold medal at Le Golf National after a phenomenal final-round performance.

Tokyo 2020 champion Xander Schauffele (-12) was in contention throughout the week until a few mistakes on Sunday saw him drop to ninth place.

Wyndham Clark (-11) played terribly on Thursday but he benefitted from the omittance of the usual halfway cut as he clawed his back to 14th with a strong weekend display.

Collin Morikawa finished lowest of the quartet but still came well inside the top half at six under par for the week.

All four players are still in their prime and will be hoping for another opportunity at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Will they keep their places, or will some up-and-coming stars wear the stars and stripes? The Golfing Gazette’s writers predict the four golfers who will represent Team USA next time around.

Predicting Team USA’s Los Angeles 2028 Olympic golfers

Prediction #1 – Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Akshay Bhatia

Sam Stone: “Hopefully, by the time the 2028 Olympic golf event comes around, the standoff between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour would’ve simmered somewhat. As a result, Bryson DeChambeau could emerge as a strong candidate for the US team.

Wyndham Clark finished well at Le Golf National but could well be replaced by the two-time US Open winner. A younger name I am also backing to make the team is lefty Akshay Bhatia. The 22-year-old has impressed this year and will only get better between now and the LA games.

“Collin Morikawa is no doubt one of the game’s elite, but whether he can maintain his level over the next four years remains to be seen. So, as a result, my USA team is Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and Akshay Bhatia.”

Prediction #2 – Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay

Peter Lynch: “For the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, it’s very hard to look past three of the four Team USA players from Paris 2024.

“Gold medal winner Scottie Scheffler doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon, and I expect Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa to once again join him given their form and likelihood of success in the near future.

“But I do predict Wyndham Clark to drop out of the quartet, to be replaced by Patrick Cantlay, who is surely due his first major win soon.”

Prediction #3 – Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Davis Thompson

Jordan Harris: “It is too soon to say whether Scottie Scheffler is the next Tiger Woods, but he could probably take the next four years off and still be world number one.

“Xander Schauffele will feel he has unfinished business after his final day collapse at Le Golf National. His major titles in 2024 should represent the start of a brilliant spell for the 30-year-old.

“Golf will really be the mess Rory McIlroy spoke about if there is still a divide in 2028. Bryson DeChambeau will surely be back in the fold to comfortably qualify after missing out to Wyndham Clark this time around.

“Davis Thompson has four top 10s and one win on the PGA Tour this year, so edges the final spot. The 25-year-old is on course to make the Tour Championship this year and could be one to really watch out for from 2025 onwards.”
