Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable 2024 continued this weekend as he took gold over in Paris at the Olympic Games.

Scheffler produced a stunning final round of nine under par to seal the gold ahead of Tommy Fleetwood, who himself played well at five under.

For Scheffler, it adds yet more glory to a year which has seen him win The Masters, The Players, The Memorial and more.

Of course, winning an Olympic medal is not about the financial element and is simply down to winning and representing your country.

On that note, Scheffler was visibly taken aback with emotion as the medals were being dealt out, with the world number one breaking down in tears as the anthems played.

And while Scheffler is used to winning and we’re all used to seeing him take the plaudits, the American has revealed exactly why this one got him in the feels.

Scottie Scheffler shares why his Olympics win was different to winning The Masters

Speaking to the media after winning gold, Scheffler admitted that the sheer size of the victory and the short time he had to process things left him reeling.

“Typically I’m fairly emotional as it is. I think with this tournament, there wasn’t much time in between winning, and then you kind of just get ushered through everything,” Scheffler said.

“I remember after the Masters this year, I took a bathroom break but really I just wanted to be by myself for a minute. I cried pretty good after that one.

“I just — I mean, it’s emotional sitting there on the podium and hearing your National Anthem, it really is. It’s been a long week. It’s been a challenging week. I played some great golf today, and I’m proud to be going home with a medal.

“There was a lot of talented guys in the field this week. These guys played tremendous golf and I think we should all be proud of the golf that we played this week.”

Scheffler played alongside good friend Tom Kim, who revealed some words of comfort from the world number one had him feeling emotional as well after the 18th.

Scheffler cements his spot as the world’s best

He was sniffing around yesterday and was in the mix but even around halfway today, it looked unlikely Scottie Scheffler would come out on top.

But as ever, he is just so calm under pressure and has a will to win that is seemingly unmatched on the PGA Tour right now.

In the end, those in front knew he was coming and as the pressure built, Scheffler simply got better and better.

He is world number one for a reason and he deserved his moment in the Olympic spotlight.

The emotions would have got the better of anyone, so Scheffler has nothing to answer for on that front either.

Once again, a truly remarkable show of golf as Scheffler continues to reach Tiger Woods levels of play.
