Brooks Koepka has given LIV Golf an unwanted headache just before the 2026 season, which should play into the hands of the PGA Tour.

Despite being contracted, Koepka may not play on LIV Golf in 2026, which leaves open the possibility of a return to the PGA Tour.

Koepka would have to pay a significant fee to get out of his contract on LIV Golf, which he joined back in 2022.

The five-time major champion, who remains one of its most high-profile recruits, currently captains Smash GC.

The PGA Tour should explore waiving potential Brooks Koepka suspension

The PGA Tour are very likely keeping a close eye on developments surrounding Koepka, who was once one of their star men.

And one course of action they could take concerns his likely one-year suspension, which former LIV players have served before competing on the PGA Tour.

As reported by Sports Business Journal, Koepka would be eligible to play on the PGA Tour in August 2026 if he is indeed served with such a suspension.

But the PGA Tour could make a smart move if it were somehow able to waive any suspension and welcome Koepka back immediately.

There’s clearly no love lost between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and such a strong move from the former would be a very damaging hit for the latter.

Why losing Brooks Koepka would be a painful blow for LIV Golf

Losing Koepka would be LIV’s biggest blow yet, with its recent additions certainly not of the same calibre as the American.

Despite only just earning his PGA Tour card, Englishman Laurie Canter has joined LIV Golf for the new season.

That was the same situation for Tom McKibbin last time out, with the Northern Irishman going on to become a LIV success story.

Frenchman Victor Perez has also joined, while Dustin Johnson is staying with LIV Golf for the foreseeable future.

But two-time major champion Johnson arguably isn’t as big a name as Koepka, who boasts five major wins.

He has nine PGA Tour wins to his name overall, with the chance to get to double figures perhaps a big motivation to make a surprise return.
