Xander Schauffele has progressively declined on the PGA Tour in 2025, having made three starts so far.
Schauffele wanted J.J. Spaun to win the Players Championship, but the latter failed in his playoff battle with Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy clinched his second PGA Tour title of the season at TPC Sawgrass, outlasting Spaun in their three-hole playoff contest.
Schauffele meanwhile finished 72nd at the Players Championship, having finished T30 and T40 at the Sentry and Arnold Palmer Invitational respectively.
Ron Sirak isn’t sure what is happening with Schauffele ahead of the Masters, which returns to Augusta National next month.

Xander Schauffele focusing too much on how his swing looks
He has, of course, been unable to fully commit to the early 2025 schedule due to a rib injury, but he headlines the field for this week’s Valspar Championship.
Speaking of his game in his opening press conference, Schauffele said: “I would say it’s been kind of a mixed bag.
“I’ve kind of had stuff all over the place. I feel like I’m cramming for a test, and when I’m out there I feel like I’m still trying to study almost, not really just taking the test.
“Today, whether it was a few swing videos that were taken, sent to Chris, I just didn’t look at ’em. I need to start looking… what my dad taught me a long time ago is look at the ball and react to the ball and not to how your swing looks.
“I think I’ve gotten a little too nitpicky on swinging the club correctly and trying to get back in a good pattern when I was playing really good golf. Sometimes when you just focus on the task at hand versus the result you can get yourself there.”
Xander Schauffele shares plans ahead of ‘demanding’ Masters at Augusta National
Schauffele won twice on the PGA Tour in 2025, with his wins coming at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
But it is once again the Masters that takes focus at this stage of the season, a tournament that Scheffler won for the second time last year.
Schauffele finished eighth at Augusta National last time out, 10 shots behind the champion, who beat Ludvig Aberg by four shots.
There are, however, a handful of PGA Tour events before the major gets underway, with Schauffele sharing insight into his short-term schedule.
| Tournament | Venue | Date |
| Valspar Championship | Innisbrook Resort | Mar 20-23 |
| Texas Children’s Houston Open | Memorial Park Golf Course | Mar 27-30 |
| Valero Texas Open | TPC San Antonio | Apr 3-6 |
| Masters | Augusta National Golf Club | Apr 10-13 |
Asked if he thinks the Valspar Championship will be his last start before the Masters, he replied: “I think everyone around me would like it to be, yeah. I mean, I need to play better tournament golf.
“I think the Masters is demanding, Augusta National’s demanding, and you imagine you would like to, you would rather play good golf going in there than not. That goes for every big tournament.
“So there’s only a few guys I can name off the top of my head that have played 12 events and won a few of ’em, and I’m not one of ’em. So I can save that for later in my career.”
| Year | Tournament | Score | Margin | Runner-up |
