Wyndham Clark was the hometown hero during last week’s BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver.

Clark has endured an up-and-down 2024. The 2023 US Open champion started the campaign in red-hot form, winning the AT&T at Pebble Beach. However, the major championship season was completely forgetful.

Clark endured a nightmare at The Open Championship, which led US fans to question his position on the Olympic team.

However, after finishing just outside the medals in Paris, Clark has bounced back into form and is well-placed inside the FedEx Cup top 30 ahead of the Tour Championship.

Clark finished tied for 13th in the second FedEx Cup playoff event in Colorado, and speaking afterwards, the 30-year-old made an admission about his native State.

The BMW Championship was a rare foray to Colorado for the PGA Tour, and Clark hopes the world’s best players return to the Centennial State in the future.

A reporter asked during Clark’s post-round press conference: “Do you sense from talking to some of the other players that they would like to come back to Colorado for events in the future?:

Clark replied: “I hope so. I mean, it’s hard to play at altitude. That’s going to be the common theme that everyone says outside of whoever wins this tournament. But even then, they’ll probably say the same thing.

“We control our ball to the yard 90 per cent of the time, and then you come here, and it’s like 40 per cent of the time. It’s just a guessing game. There’s a lot of luck involved at altitude golf.”

He added: “But with that said, Denver is a great sports town. This is a great golf course. The love and the support we feel from the fans here is amazing.

“I would love for us to come back at least every few years, every other year, or every year. It would be great to be able to come back here. I hope we do, and hopefully, that happens.”

Wyndham Clark’s recent PGA Tour form

As the PGA Tour gets set for its season-ending finale in Atlanta, Clark will fancy his chances of competing for golf’s most lucrative prize.

Since the US Open—moving The Open to one side—Clark hasn’t finished outside the top 15. He was tied for ninth at the Travelers Championship, in the top ten at the Scottish Open and St Jude, and then produced a solid performance last week in Denver.

If Clark were to win the Tour Championship, it would represent quite a turnaround for the American, who, during the middle part of 2024, faced extreme criticism from large swathes of the golfing world.
