Scottie Scheffler is back in action at the Presidents Cup, which is the world number one’s first outing since winning the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Scheffler was the number one qualifier for Jim Furyk’s 12-man United States Team, and the American will be looking to improve on his concerning match-play record.

Russell Henley has been backed to partner Scheffler ahead of Thursday’s opening matches, and all eyes will no doubt be on the 28-year-old as he spearheads the US team along with Xander Schauffele.

Scheffler has been practising at Royal Montreal Golf Club since the start of the week, and Golf Channel pundit Johnson Wagner has shared the latest on the two-time Masters winner as he prepares in Quebec.

Wagner, speaking on the Golf Channel on Tuesday, relayed information he’d received from a caddie regarding Scheffler’s chipping on the par-five 12th hole.

“This caddie I was talking to earlier was in a group with Scottie Scheffler earlier when the American team was playing their front nine,” Wagner said.

“Scottie Scheffler was having some fun with a 60-degree and was flying the ball with spin and keeping it on the green. Two of the other players in his group were not able to pitch the ball with spin and keep it on the surface, landing it on there. This green is pitched away from you, and the fairway grass is very tight.”

The USA’s practice rounds groups were as expected. Patrick Cantlay and Schauffele are Furyk’s most potent pairing, while Brian Harman and Max Homa were outstanding at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Considering Scheffler was paired alongside Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns and Russell Henley during practice in Quebec, the world number one teaming up with Burns and Henley feels likely.

Bradley is another option, but the 2025 Ryder Cup captain could well be paired with Tony Finau or Collin Morikawa – two players who appear to be suited to any scenario.

Furyk will undoubtedly have some big calls to make, and who he pairs Scheffler with could prove a key decision as the US eye yet another Presidents Cup victory.
