Golf commentator Smylie Kaufman has urged Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele to follow in Rory McIlroy’s footsteps and adjust their schedules once the PGA Tour season concludes at the Tour Championship.
Schauffele and Scheffler are preparing for the Presidents Cup, which is their first outing since the season finale in Atlanta.
The duo are part of Jim Furyk’s 12-man United States team, which is looking for a tenth consecutive win against the International side.
Of course, Scheffler and Schauffele are now focusing on the Presidents Cup, but Kaufman believes heading to Europe upon the conclusion of the PGA Tour season should become commonplace for the game’s elite duo.

Speaking after the conclusion of the thrilling BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Kaufman suggested some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour should compete in Europe more often and follow in McIlroy’s and Billy Horschel’s footsteps.
“It was fun to see Rory McIlroy coming down the stretch at the Irish Open but throw Xander Schauffele in to that thing at Royal County Down or Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth. The list goes on,” Kaufman explained. “We see these guys at major championships at iconic venues; I would love to see it on a global stage. It seems like a no-brainer; I don’t know why we haven’t talked about it before.”
Kaufman continued: “A way in which we can answer those questions that Rory McIlroy has. The schedule is already lined up and maybe find a way to get LIV guys in there and then great.”
PGA Tour must encourage players to make DP World Tour appearances
Considering some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour originated from Europe, those Stateside would be wise to give something back to the DP World Tour.
Jay Monahan and Co. could consider potentially offering bonuses to PGA Tour players who participate at the BMW or Irish Open.
As Kaufman mentions, the prospect of Scheffler battling McIlroy at Royal County Down, one of the world’s best courses, is tantalising.
Furthermore, with the DP World Tour in need of attention, the participation of the world’s best players can only be a good thing.
Hopefully, Horschel’s win in Surrey will encourage more American stars to add an extra tournament to their schedules once the PGA Tour finale is over.
