It’s been a busy couple of weeks over at LIV Golf as the Saudi-backed venture looks to finalise its line-up for the 2025 season.
Thus far, though, a Jon Rahm-esque addition has yet to emerge. Six-time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau was heavily linked, but speculation was shut down just a few days later.
Rumours also emerged about Adam Scott; however, no credible sources have confirmed whether the Aussie is of LIV interest.
With LIV having difficulty attracting high-profile players, the only movement to date has come from the Asian Tour and trades between teams.
That was until the LIV Golf Promotions event concluded on Sunday.
Tyrrell Hatton reacts as Lee Chieh-po secures LIV Golf spot
Lee Chieh-po, from Chinese Taipei, was the man who ran out victorious at the Promotions event in Riyadh.
The 28-year-old, who has previously played on the PGA Tour China, produced the shot of his life on par-three 17th to finish the 36-hole marathon on ten under, two shots clear of Branden Grace.
And, after LIV Golf confirmed its newest addition on Instagram, Tyrrell Hatton shared his immediate reaction.
The Englishman, who was one of LIV’s big-money signings in 2023, left multiple clapping emojis and was clearly congratulating the PIF-backed venture’s newest recruit.
Will LIV Golf land a PGA Tour player before the 2025 season starts?
Right now, LIV’s hopes of landing a big-name PGA Tour player appear slim. Finau, at one point, looked nailed on to be joining. But, clearly, the deal wasn’t as far down the line as some people thought.
Finau has yet to confirm his spot at The Sentry, which is the PGA Tour’s season-opener in Hawaii. Once the Salt Lake City native tees it up at the Plantation Course, speculation will finally be put to bed.
Rumours have been sparse beyond Finau, which may indicate that a big-name PGA Tour departure is unlikely this year.
As for other transfer activity, the Iron Heads have signed Yubin Jang, and Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces have added Thomas Pieters to their ranks.
