Whatever fans think of LIV Golf, it is certainly fair to suggest that rumours concerning who may join the league for the following season make the quiet end of the year a little more exciting.

LIV Golf has certainly upset the apple cart since becoming part of the golfing landscape in 2022. Many big names have made the jump from either the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour.

Of course, it appeared to be a monumental moment in 2023 when it was announced that Jon Rahm would be joining the league. While it has probably not been quite the needle-mover LIV would have hoped for, it does appear to have played a role in pushing all sides to try and reach an agreement to bring the game back together.

And thus, it would be no surprise to see LIV push to land more big names this winter. In fact, perhaps they have already signed up another top 30 player in the world ahead of the 2025 season.

Tony Finau may have already decided to join LIV Golf

According to the YouTuber Mr Short Game, a source has informed him that Tony Finau has decided to join LIV – and may not be the last marquee addition for the league.

“Breaking news that Tony Finau, according to my sources, has signed with LIV Golf. Right out of the gate, here we go,” he said.

“Now, my source has told me there’s two to four players, big names, that are joining LIV. One of them is Tony Finau, according to my source, it’s done, he’s signed.”

Why Finau may have changed his mind about leaving the PGA Tour for LIV

Of course, many will have their doubts about how legitimate the claim is. Finau – whose biggest win arguably came at the 2021 Northern Trust Open – has been heavily linked with a move to LIV for some time, particularly as he has a close relationship with Rahm. So it is no surprise at all to see him linked with a move once again.

Finau confirmed that he would be staying with the PGA Tour ahead of the 2024 season amid speculation. But Rahm is just one of a number of players who have shown that much can change in a year, so it would be a shock if LIV Golf did not at least attempt to lure Finau over once again.

It does appear that to be a move which comes with a lot less risk. The 2025 Ryder Cup is surely going to have a number of LIV players involved, while talks over a deal to bring the game back together are continuing.

So perhaps there may be one or two names who are now much more comfortable with the idea of joining LIV.

Perhaps Finau has already decided.
