LIV Golf’s transfer window is slowly but surely gathering pace despite the Saudi-backed venture not having secured a big-name PGA Tour player thus far.

Tony Finau was heavily linked with a move to LIV before shutting down speculation ahead of last week’s Hero World Challenge.

Although it seems LIV have missed out on Finau, they are still pursuing new recruits. Smylie Kaufman believes that another mystery PGA Tour player could soon make the switch.

While the wait for a marquee signing continues, some LIV teams have carried out some business. Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces have signed Thomas Pieters from the RangeGoats, and the Iron Heads GC have also been busy.

After offering contract extensions to Danny Lee and Jinichiro Kozuma, Kevin Na’s team announced the signing of three-time Korean Tour winner Yubin Jang.

The 22-year-old South Korean has posted a message on Instagram after his LIV move was confirmed.

Translated from Korean, Jang wrote: “First of all, I’m posting this because I have a part to tell my many fans first.

“I think there are many people who were confused and felt bad about the many articles since yesterday. In fact, I was thinking and thinking again and again for a day until the contract came. ‘Is it right to choose Liv? What else do the fans think? ‘ I thought and thought again, it was seriously too hard to make a decision. So the PGA hotspot didn’t cancel all the way.”

Jang went on to reveal that he still dreams of winning the Masters despite making the move to LIV.

“But I’ve decided to go to Liv, and I feel a step closer to my dream. I think I’ve been lucky enough to compete against global players faster than anyone else. I’ve always told you that I’m going somewhere else than the PGA, but I haven’t given up my dream of winning the Masters,” he added.

“I hope you’ll look at me well, support me and trust my decision. Once again, I would like to thank Shinhan Financial Group, Chairman Jin Hyuk-dong, Chairman Jong Geun Dang, Chairman of Boss Golf Shin Jae-ho, and Chairman of National Motors Kim Sung-chul for supporting and cheering for my decision.

“I would like to say thank you to KPGA President Kim Won-hyuk for caring a lot in many ways and to Kevin Pro for giving me a great opportunity. I would like to say thank you to the fans who have shown me so much concern and support. I will often see myself in Korean matches, so I hope Jang Yu-bin will love me.”

Who is new LIV Golf player Yubin Jang?

Jang is currently ranked 135th in the world and is one of the hottest properties to emerge from the South Korean golf circuits.

Coming through the amateur ranks, Jang once reached 35th in the world and was a member of the Asia-Pacific side for the 2023 Bonallack Trophy.

After turning professional in 2023, Jang won the Korean Tour’s money list and the Player of the Year title. The 22-year-old won twice and finished runner-up five times.

Kevin Na and the Iron Heads will also be pleased to hear that Jang is exempt from South Korean military service after helping his country win gold at the 2023 Asian Games.

The acquisition of Jang continues LIV’s desire to sign some of golf’s youngest and brightest talents before they emerge on the PGA Tour.
