Tyrrell Hatton has dropped a concerning hint about how many DP World Tour events he intends to play in 2025 as the Ryder Cup looms.
Currently, LIV Golf players must maintain DP World Tour membership to be considered for Luke Donald‘s team. To remain an active member of the Wentworth-based circuit, fines and sanctions must be settled in order for the requisite number of appearances to be made.
Hatton and Jon Rahm appealed their fines in order to participate during the autumn and ensure DP World Tour regulations were met. While the total of Hatton’s fines is unclear, Rahm is believed to owe the DP World Tour $1 million.
Right now, the duo are eligible for Ryder Cup selection and could automatically qualify if they perform well in DP World Tour-sanctioned events. However, after his latest admission at the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi, Hatton may be solely reliant on a captain’s pick.
Tyrrell Hatton makes Ryder Cup admission at Team Cup

Speaking during his press duties on Thursday, Hatton revealed that he’s only playing the Dubai Desert Classic and the four major championships outside of the LIV Golf circuit.
Consequently, the Englishman must perform well at the majors to climb the European Ryder Cup points list.
“Well, my opportunities are more limited than others, obviously,” Hatton said.
“Desert Classic next week and the four majors. Going to have to play some very good golf in those five events to be an automatic qualifier. But yeah, I mean, I’m going to try my best. And we’ll see how it plays out. But yes, I would love to be on that team in September.”
Donald is at the Team Cup this weekend, and Hatton believes it’s a good chance to remind his compatriot of his commitment to the DP World Tour.
“Me playing this week, it shows a commitment to that and a commitment to the DP World Tour, which I was pretty keen to show. I think I also showed that at the back end of last year,” Hatton added.
“Yeah, I love playing on the DP World Tour, and I’m happy to be here this week. It would be nice to help GB&I get some revenge for two years ago.”
Where is Tyrrell Hatton in the European Ryder Cup standings?
As of January 10, Hatton will be part of Donald’s team at Bethpage Black. Hatton’s form on the DP World Tour – since the start of the qualification period – has been impressive, and the 33-year-old sits third in the standings behind Rasmus Hojgaard and Rory McIlroy.
Matt Wallace and Paul Waring make up the top five, with Niklas Norgaard currently on the bubble.
Rahm is currently 17th in the standings and will need to perform well at the major championships to make Donald’s team. 5000 points are available at the majors, 3000 at PGA Tour Signature Events, The Players and FedEx Cup playoffs and 2000 at DP World Tour Rolex Series events.
Given the situation with LIV Golf stars and the limited opportunity for points, Donald will be faced with some tough decisions when it comes to naming his picks.
