Tom Kim was the International Team’s hype man during the second day of the 2024 Presidents Cup.
Mike Weir opted to sit out the South Korean after the 22-year-old was involved in a feisty match with Scottie Scheffler. Weir confirmed why Kim missed the foursomes on Thursday, but the 22-year-old is back in action today.
Weir’s decision to drop Kim drew criticism, although the call proved inspired after the International Team ran riot on Friday, winning all five points.
Tom Kim shares thoughts after sitting out at Presidents Cup

Kim has now shared his thoughts on Weir’s decision and revealed that he was more than happy to play a role from the sidelines.
“Obviously, I felt like I played great yesterday, and then knowing that I was going to take the day off, as a player, you want to go out and perform, but at the same time, this week isn’t about performing, it’s about being a good teammate,” Kim explained.
“When I knew I was going to sit out, I asked myself what I could do for my teammates to go out tomorrow and feel the energy because our crowd wasn’t going. I had one goal today, and that was to get there before everyone got to the first tee and get the crowd going for my guys. Our fans brought it. Our I-N-T fans really brought it today, and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
The South Korean continued: “I just wish they could bring it on the weekend as well because we’re going to need it. It was so much fun to be next to my teammates and just go nuts. I’m starting to lose my voice a little bit. But these guys just played so unbelievable, and I’m so grateful.”
Canadian crowds react to Tom Kim’s comments
The atmosphere at Royal Montreal was electric on Friday, just hours after Kim criticised the home support.
Kim’s comments came under fire, but whatever the South Korean said appeared to work as the USA crumbled.
Considering the United States’ woeful away record, the Canadian crowds could play a massive role as the Presidents Cup continues.
Weir’s side showed they’re more than capable of matching this star-studded side and stand an excellent chance of ending what has been 26 winless years in the event.
