Despite his recent injury struggles and poor form, Tiger Woods is arguably still the biggest attraction in golf.

Whenever the 15-time major champion takes to the course, he steals the headlines ahead of the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

The Hero World Challenge, however, won’t be where Woods is seen for the first time since the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. Woods confirmed his withdrawal on Monday evening, with Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Nick Dunlap set to complete the field.

Woods intended to play in the Hero World Challenge but suffered an injury setback in September. Woods underwent back surgery to alleviate the spasms he had been suffering from during the 2024 season.

Now, the hope is Tiger will be fit and ready to take on the TGL and compete in more PGA Tour events in the 2025 season.

After Woods‘ latest withdrawal, talk has now emerged of when the 15-time major winner will next be seen.

Woods is confirmed to appear in the TGL in January, and Golf Digest reports that the 48-year-old is still committed to playing in the PNC Championship on December 21 and using a golf cart alongside his son Charlie.

Popular Tiger Woods fan account TWLEGION did reiterate on X that there has been no confirmation about the American’s participation at the PNC.

“FWIW, Golf Digest reports that Tiger is ‘expected’ to play the PNC with son Charlie,” they wrote. “The same article says he has committed but has yet to see an official confirmation on that. Woods announced earlier this evening that he’s disappointed to not be able to play at Hero.”

What is the PNC Championship?

The PNC Championship is unlike any event on the PGA Tour. The 20-strong field includes past major champions, and each player is allowed to team up with one family member. Those who have won The Players Championship are also eligible.

The scramble-style format sees each player hit a drive before the best shot is selected. The process is then repeated until the hole is completed.

Last year’s winners at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club were Bernhard and Jason Langer. In 2022, Vijay and Qass Singh claimed the prize. Jon Daly and his son won in 2021, and Justin Thomas, playing with his father, claimed victory in 2020.
