Tiger Woods endured a miserable two rounds at The Open Championship – and the 15-time major winner has now confirmed when he will next feature as he continues his return to full fitness.

The 48-year-old finished on 14 over and 150th in the field as he once again failed to make the weekend. Woods’ latest disappointment comes after his missed cuts at the US Open and the PGA Championship.

After a public spat with Colin Montgomerie stole the headlines before the final major of the year, Woods’ disappointing performance could once again prompt calls for his retirement.

Woods has only featured four times since April – all coming in the major championships – and the golfing world will now face a long wait until the all-time great emerges once more.

Speaking after his second round, the 48-year-old has confirmed that he won’t return to action until the Hero World Challenge at the start of December.

Woods is believed to be eager to get back to full fitness in the gym until the end of the year. Before The Open, the three-time winner issued a positive update on his physical condition.

Tiger Woods is still the main attraction in golf

Despite struggling, the golfing world must recognise that Woods is still heavily impacted by fitness issues.

He’s nowhere near the level required to compete in the majors and is severely lacking in competition rounds. But there’s a reason he’s looking to get back to full fitness.

There have been glimpses to suggest he can still compete at the top level. For the most part, his driving has been impressive and in line with some of the world’s best.

By playing more in the new year, Woods should regain the sharpness required to tee it up more often.

The game needs Tiger, and he’s not done yet.
