The golfer who will replace Jon Rahm at the U.S. Open has now been confirmed after the LIV Golf star’s withdrawal on Tuesday.
Rahm has been suffering from an infected cut on his foot and withdrew from LIV Golf’s Houston event last week.
After travelling to Pinehurst, there was hope that the Spaniard would be fit to compete in the year’s third major.
However, late on Tuesday evening, the 2023 Masters champion confirmed he would no longer be participating.
As a result, the first alternate has now been given the chance to feature at Pinehurst No.2.
Jackson Suber given last-minute US Open lifeline
Jackson Suber, who has been playing on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, has been gifted a last-minute invite to the U.S. Open after Rahm’s withdrawal.
The Tampa-born 24-year-old will now play alongside two former Masters champions – Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama – for the first two rounds at Pinehurst.
Suber was the first alternate from the Maryland final qualifying after missing out on the top three by one shot.
The American carded a 70 and a 65 on the ‘longest day in golf’ but was edged out by Wells Williams, Isaiah Salinda and Tim Wilding.
Who is Jackson Suber?
Suber is a 24-year-old Korn Ferry Tour player originating out of Tampa, Florida.
The American turned professional in 2022 after finishing No.9 on the PGA Tour’s University Velocity Global Ranking.
After gaining direct access to the second stage of Q-School, Suber now finds himself on the PGA Tour’s feeder tour – and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Sahith Theegala, who is now flourishing on the PGA Tour.
Suber has played 12 KFT events this year, finishing in the top ten twice, although he has missed six cuts along the way.
His best finish to date came at the LECOM Suncoast Classic, where he finished T6 on 18 under. Suber’s outing at the U.S. Open is also his first taste of a major championship.
