The US Open at Pinehurst is one big name down after Jon Rahm confirmed tonight he’ll be withdrawing from the tournament.
Rahm was among the big name players from LIV Golf hoping to compete and contend at Pinehurst.
The Spaniard who won the US Open in 2021, had travelled to the course hoping to play despite withdrawing from LIV Houston at the weekend.
Rahm had arrived at his press conference today with only one shoe on and confirmed that while his foot was healing from infection, he was still in a lot of pain.
“The infection is now controlled, but there’s still swelling, and there’s still pain.
“There’s a reason I walked out here in a shoe and a flip-flop, trying to keep the area dry and trying to get that to heal as soon as possible,” Rahm said earlier today.
However, taking to social media this evening to provide a further update, Rahm has now confirmed he is pulling out of the US Open.

Taking to X to share an update on proceedings, Rahm confirmed that having spoken to doctors, he was taking the decision to drop out.
“After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health, to withdraw from this weeks US Open Championship,” Rahm commented.
“To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship!
“Hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later!”
It means, then, that we are one big name down for the third major of the year and it gives the field one less former winner to defeat.
Rahm, of course, appears devastated at having to withdraw and really, it is a sad day when we see one of the best in the world injured.
The Spaniard, then, will be hoping to make a swift recovery and get himself ready for The Open.
