An update has emerged on LIV Golf star Jon Rahm after the Spaniard withdrew from LIV Golf Houston at the weekend.

The 2021 U.S. Open champion looked in significant discomfort and is believed to be suffering from a foot issue.

For Rahm, the issue couldn’t have come at a worse time, with the year’s third major set to get underway at Pinehurst No.2 on Thursday.

And, as the world’s best players descend on one of the bastions of American golf, the Spaniard has shared the latest on his fitness.

Rahm is now at Pinehurst ahead of the third major of the year and has confirmed that the infection is now under control.

“The infection is now controlled, but there’s still swelling, and there’s still pain,” he told Golf.Com. “There’s a reason I walked out here in a shoe and a flip-flop, trying to keep the area dry and trying to get that to heal as soon as possible.”

Awful timing for Jon Rahm after PGA Championship misery

Rahm will view the U.S. Open as the perfect chance to put to bed his missed cut at the PGA Championship.

It was a sub-par performance at Valhalla, and he cut a visibly frustrated figure at times.

Since his blockbuster move to LIV Golf, the former PGA Tour ace has seemed slightly unsettled. Perhaps issues over his participation in the Ryder Cup and his well-documented problems with LIV Golf’s format could be taking a toll.

The USGA will undoubtedly be pleased to see Rahm present at Pinehurst. The U.S. Open prides itself on being the most challenging major, so having the best players present is non-negotiable.
