Week one of the TGL has been and gone as the Ludvig Aberg and The Bay GC defeated Xander Schauffele’s New York GC 9-2 on opening night.
In a star-studded event inside the SoFi Centre, the TGL got off to a good start in the main as the mix of tech, big names and some impressive golf shots made for entertaining viewing.
With exciting side rules like ‘The Hammer’ also in play, there’s definitely scope for the TGL to become a huge success and with Tiger Woods due up next, viewers should return for week two in their droves.
However, as with any new product, there’s always things that can be worked on.
And according to Smylie Kaufman, a big focus of improvement needs to be on how we as an audience get to hear the discussions between golfers.

TGL told to make big improvement when it comes to live coverage
Speaking on the latest episode of his Smylie Show Podcast, Kaufman admitted to being impressed with the TGL overall.
However, he did suggest one improvement when it came to the player interactions.
“I thought it was cool, right? Like, I’d watch it again. I want to see all the teams,” Kaufman said.
“My one initial bit of feedback, like I want to see improvement on is I think the banter of the mics, it’s really hard because it’s a lot of voices but it would be really cool to get the best of what is said. Like I know that’s hard to do but the way it was produced, I really was impressed except the DJ Khaled interview was a little clunky.
“They did a really good job of the replays and keeping you up to date but I wanted to feel like I was like walking or playing with them, and I know that’s really hard but I just wanted to say.”
TGL gets plenty of feedback after opening night
With any new commodity in golf, we’re going to get feedback, both positive and negative and that’s exactly what the TGL has had.
Kaufman’s comments are about as negative as they get really though, with most people providing a more positive slant on things.
Golf fans in general admitted their surprise at how good the coverage was in general, while popular sports pundit and WWE commentator Pat McAfee believes the concept could really take off across the USA.

In terms of players, Max Homa defended TGL after it got criticised, and even LIV Golf player Anthony Kim even admitted he wanted TGL to succeed.
With week two featuring Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy not set to play until a few weeks, the TGL seems to have at least a few good runs in the locker before potential boredom sets in among fans.
