The Bay Golf Club made TGL history by becoming the first team to pick up a win at the innovative SoFi Centre in Palm Beach.
Shane Lowry and Ludvig Aberg starred at the purpose-built facility as New York Golf Club were brushed aside with ease on the league’s opening night.
For Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy – the brains behind the venture – there was lots to like about the first night’s action. Fans online were pleasantly surprised with the TGL after some had been sceptical beforehand.
There were, as always the case, some who were left unconvinced after watching the action.
US radio host makes claim about TGL

Mike Francesca – an American sports radio host – took to X to voice his concern about the TGL after watching the opening match.
“I’m sure the great Tiger Woods, Rory and friends are getting richer,” he wrote. “But if the TGL is the future of sports, then the party is over!”
Thankfully, six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa was on hand to defend the newly founded indoor league.
“Would be a different tune if NY wasn’t getting routed,” Homa responded.
Max Homa drops verdict on TGL after night one
Speaking during the No Laying Up reaction podcast, Homa shared his thoughts on the TGL after watching the tech-infused product for the first time.
“I really liked it. I was talking to my wife about it, asking what she liked and didn’t like, and the pace of it was electric,” Homa said.
“That was an aspirational pace of play. I think that helped as it kept moving. It felt a lot more like a normal sport where you see a bunch of action and it goes to commercial and it’s not that bad to go to commercial as you want to catch your breathe.
“It’s not as intense as a hockey or a basketball game, but it is nice to get a quick break, and you see enough in between the commercials. I was nervous for them because it’s live and it’s a lot of technology and the first time ever. I have been part of the Match when mics goes out and nobody can hear anything. But I thought it went pretty well.”

Is Max Homa playing in the TGL?
Homa is part of Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC and will play on January 14 against Los Angeles GC.
League matches will take place in January and February before the semi-finals and finals start in March. The semi-finals will be held back-to-back at the beginning of the month, and the final will be played over three consecutive days from March 24.
The early signs for TGL organisers are highly positive, and with Woods and Rory McIlroy set to compete, interest in the indoor league is likely to grow further.
