After going without a victory in 2024, Ludvig Aberg already has his first win of the new year, with The Bay Golf Club enjoying a near-flawless debut in the opening match of TGL.
Ludvig Aberg embraced the role of the silent assassin during the curtain-raiser of TGL. The Swede was picked alongside Shane Lowry and Wyndham Clark as New York Golf Club were soundly beaten. And while Aberg was fairly quiet on the mic throughout the occasion, he certainly seemed to let his golf do the talking.
Obviously, it has been a meteoric rise for Aberg. He made his Ryder Cup debut just a few months after turning professional – and before he had even featured in a major. And of course, he played his part in Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka suffering the heaviest defeat in Ryder Cup history in Rome.
Aberg would then mark his debut in the majors by finishing second at the Masters.
Rory McIlroy shares what he keeps telling people about Ludvig Aberg
He will perhaps be a little disappointed that he failed to win a second time on the PGA Tour after the 2023 RSM Classic. But clearly, the hopes are extremely high for the 25-year-old.
Aberg holed the putt for the opening birdie in TGL, while some of his approach play in the SoFi Center was outstanding.

And speaking while on commentary, Rory McIlroy shared just how impressed he has been by Aberg during his career.
“Going into the Ryder Cup in ’23, people thought that Ludvig was a questionable pick. He’d only been a pro for a few months. And he was absolutely incredible in the Ryder Cup, and I keep saying to everyone I’m glad he’s European, I’m glad he’s on my team,” he said.
Tiger Woods issues his verdict on Aberg’s swing
It was not only McIlroy who lauded Aberg. In fact, it seems that Tiger Woods is a big admirer of the youngster – who was also in the mix at the US Open until a disappointing Sunday at Pinehurst.
Woods was asked about what he thought about Aberg’s swing. And he noted how many boxes the starlet’s action seems to tick.
“It’s so simple. Just straight up, straight down. He doesn’t do anything wrong in his golf swing. There’s no little thing that he does, there’s nothing that’s going to stop him from being one of the world’s best,” he said.
It appears that Aberg has everything needed to become a regular winner on the PGA Tour. He registered eight top 10s in 2024, while he finished second on three occasions.
It really does feel as if that win on a massive stage is just around the corner – particularly with Aberg able to count McIlroy and Woods as fans of his.
