So Scottie Scheffler is now a three-time major winner after his victory at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler won by five shots at Quail Hollow in the end, despite not having his very best game.

The PGA Championship looked like it would be a really tightly run race midway through the 28-year-old’s final round.

Dame Laura Davies said before the final round began that the only man who could prevent Scheffler from winning was Scheffler himself.

And it looked like that was exactly what would happen midway through his final round.

However, the now 15-time PGA Tour winner dug deep and proved that he is not only the best golfer in the world by a long way, but he is also a street fighter as well.

Scheffler’s father praised his son’s toughness after he won the PGA Championship, and there is an argument to be made that his mental fortitude is actually his biggest strength.

Scottie Scheffler reveals what happened to him before the PGA Championship began

It was a funny old week at Quail Hollow in general.

The course was actually set up magnificently well, and the fairways and greens were immaculate for the most part, given the amount of rain that fell down in Charlotte, North Carolina before the tournament began.

However, the event just didn’t quite feel like a major right up until Scheffler finished his last five holes in five-under-par on Saturday.

And then the excitement began to build throughout the final day’s play on Sunday.

After the American ran away with the Wanamaker Trophy in the end, he spoke to the media about his struggles leading up to the start of the tournament.

Scheffler opened up on some problems that he went through during the build-up to the second major of the year.

He said, I just kept hitting it left. I knew it was going to be a challenging day. Finishing off a major championship is always difficult. I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine. I did not have my best stuff but I kept myself in it and stepped up on the back nine and had a really good nine holes and that was about it.

I am just really proud of the way we fought this week. I was battling my swing the first couple of days. I did not have as good as a prep week as I would have hoped to. It was a battle out there for four days. Teddy did a good job out there of keeping me in it and Randy helped me figure some stuff out in my swing. It was a real team effort this week, I am proud of the whole squad.

Scheffler then went on to suggest that his driver was adjudged to be non-conforming by the USGA before the start of the PGA Championship.

Even that couldn’t stop the winning machine that is the 28-year-old from Dallas though.

What Ted Scott told Scheffler when Rahm tied him for the lead

There was a point in Scheffler’s final round when everything looked like it was going wrong.

Jon Rahm was on the charge, whilst Scheffler faltered. At one stage, it actually looked like he was throwing it all away.

However, his ever-reliable caddie Ted Scott brought him back to reality with some very simple words.

After the round finished, Scott said, Well, he was hitting everything left, and he was like, ‘you see anything’? I said, ‘the swing looks good but everything’s going left, maybe aim right, I don’t know’. I was just trying to be an idiot and see what happened. He stepped up on 10 and hit a great drive and I said, ‘there he is’. That was the only thing I said to him, and then he started hitting it great and feeling good and comfortable, and knowing where the ball was going to come off, and I was like, ‘here we go baby’.

Now Scheffler, with the help of Scott, has elevated himself to a whole new level after winning his third major championship, and his 15th PGA Tour event.

Now the only question hanging over Scheffler’s head is, how many more can he go on and win during his prime years?
