Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are set to face off in a unique golfing event on December 17.

The ‘grudge’ match is the first time LIV Golf and PGA Tour players have faced off in a one-off event since the breakaway league was formed in 2022.

A staggering $10m prize pot is up for grabs at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, and a mixture of formats will be used over three six-hole sections.

Golf fans are split on the LIV v PGA Tour match. Nevertheless, the primetime slot on TNT promises to attract a large audience.

Ahead of the event in Las Vegas, Golf Digest managed to corner the four golfing heavyweights for a cover shoot.

Scheffler, speaking to the magazine, detailed what it was like spending time with the LIV Golf duo behind the scenes.

“When we see each other on tour or at majors, we’re in our little world, our little bubble. Here, you’re just cutting up, hanging out pretty much the whole time,” Scheffler said. “It’s always fun getting to know guys in a more relaxed environment. That’s what’s fun about the team events.”

Upcoming LIV Golf v PGA Tour match set to send message

With talks between the PIF and PGA Tour still rumbling on, Scheffler, McIlroy, DeChambeau and Koepka will hope their upcoming ceasefire sends a message to the authorities, who are currently struggling to resolve the divide within the game.

Four of the game’s biggest names have come together to schedule this match, which clearly demonstrates what the players want to happen.

Yet, with yet more PGA Tour exits rumoured, a merger doesn’t feel close. Furthermore, the PIF’s decision to open talks with the DP World Tour perhaps indicates the Saudis’ stance on the PGA Tour.

Given the current state of world golf, the LIV vs PGA Tour showdown at Shadow Creek will probably end up being more of a spectacle than it will a poignant golfing message sent to those who govern the game.
