After a few years of back and forth between LIV and PGA Tour fans, it looks like we’ve finally taken some small steps to the two tours collaborating.
Yesterday’s news that Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will go head to head with Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a two v two match in Las Vegas was certainly a headline grabber.
While nothing has been confirmed officially just yet, the BBC reported that McIlroy had indeed confirmed the event for December, while the actual PGA Tour have said they don’t have any affiliation with the event.
Still, regardless of who authorises it and what banner it’s sold under, the fact is that this is very good news for golf fans around the world.
Seeing McIlroy, Scheffler, DeChambeau and Koepka go head to head is what people have been crying out for.
But over on social media, it seems that while there’s some excitement, there’s also a feeling that this is a bit of a cash grab from the players involved!

Golf fans are 50/50 after McIlroy and Scheffler v DeChambeau and Koepka news
As always, social media platform X is the place to be for the best reactions.
And it seems the news of a McIlroy/Scheffler v DeChambeau/Koepka showdown has garnered mixed reactions among the masses.
One fan suggested they had been waiting for this moment for some time.
While another echoed those sentiments, suggesting golf needed more of it.
Another fan, @KennethMoo989807 was also a fan and suggested a full on Ryder Cup style match between LIV and the PGA Tour would be great as well.
“I will definitely be pulling for Bryson and Brooks. Although it’s hard not to root for Scottie. It should be great fun to watch. I wish they would have a Ryder Cup type match between LIV and the PGAT. That would be really fun”
While @Golfandstonks had a similar opinion to that above, suggesting golf become more like the NFL.
“LIV and the PGA should be conferences. Create divisions, matches, etc. the NFL has created one of the most successful competitive designs for sports. Use it.”
However, it wasn’t all positive, as @Bellyhungry suggested that this was just a way to make more money.
“They have 4 opportunities to play against each other in majors. I can only think of this as a money grab”.
While another user, @justenholstein also suggested it would be nothing more than an friendly match.
“It’s an exhibition match. Who cares.”
A positive step in the right direction
This very much looks like a way of some of the players saying if the two tours aren’t going to sort things out, then they’ll take matters into their own hands anyway.
It’s interesting how the PGA Tour have said they want nothing to do with this, so it will be interesting to see if LIV put their name to it anywhere for the PR win.
Regardless, this still brings some good golf with big names at a point in the season where the season is a bit dry.
Who wins, will matter little. But come December, when golf fans are yearning for some content, you can bet your bottom dollar fans will be tuning in.
