Scottie Scheffler is looking to add an Olympic medal to his already glittering resume, but the world number one has a very unusual goal for this week’s event at Le Golf National.
Scheffler is part of a stacked American team that has assembled in Paris and is among the favourites, along with his compatriot and two-time major winner, Xander Schauffele.
This week’s event is the world number one’s first visit to Le Golf National, although Scheffler has been advised by his caddie, Ted Scott, who was part of Team USA during the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Heading into this week’s event, the American appears to be in a relaxed mood.
Scottie Scheffler just wants to ‘have fun’ at the Paris Olympics

In an X post shared on Wednesday, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Scheffler were asked to set their goals for the week.
Unsurprisingly, the European trio all claimed their target was to win a gold medal, but Scheffler’s was a little different.
The 2024 Masters champion suggested he aims to simply “have fun” at Le Golf National, with the result very much secondary.
Regarding his game, Scheffler believes his putting is in good shape as he goes in search of an Olympic medal.
Scottie Scheffler’s relaxed nature a huge part of his 2024 success
A huge reason behind Scheffler’s success is his temperament. The world number one knows what he’s capable of and that if he remains calm and relaxed, positive results will follow.
However, as we all know, golf can be one of the most frustrating sports, irrespective of the level. Some of the world’s best players let their emotions get the best of them on the biggest stage; McIlroy crumbling at Pinehurst is an excellent recent example.
Scheffler, however, is different. If he has an off-week, it’s merely that. He won’t read too far into a poor display and understands that there are more important things than what he produces on the course.
Given his season thus far, Scheffler has undoubtedly had plenty of fun and good times show no sign of letting up for the two-time Masters champion.
