The finale of the PGA Tour season is firmly in view, and Scottie Scheffler will take a two-shot lead to the Tour Championship.

The world number one, however, isn’t heading to Atlanta in top form. Scheffler finished tied for 33rd at the BMW Championship and cut a frustrated figure at Castle Pines.

Scheffler completely lost his head during the second round as the American’s frustrations boiled over once more. Scheffler also produced a moment of rage during last week’s St Jude Championship in Memphis after missing a short putt.

However, after calming down during the final 36 holes in Denver, Scheffler is now looking ahead to the Tour Championship and has shed light on his plans in preparation for Thursday’s first round.

Speaking immediately after his final round at Castle Pines, Scheffler confirmed he would be heading to Atlanta on Monday.

“Yeah, get rested, get ready,” Scheffler explained. “We’ve got a new golf course to learn. It’s my understanding the changes were pretty significant next week. Definitely looking forward to getting down there. I’ll go out late tomorrow and do some practice and see what’s going on with the new course.”

The world number one also suggested he would try and get out on the course upon his arrival.

A reporter asked: “Are you going to try to play some holes tomorrow?”

“It depends how I feel, but I would imagine I’m going to try to get out on the course,” Scheffler replied.

East Lake changes could benefit Scottie Scheffler this week

Scheffler is excited about the East Lake changes, and the renovations could help the two-time Masters champion improve his indifferent record in Atlanta.

The overall course layout hasn’t been dramatically altered, with the significant differences coming around the greens and bunkers.

The traps are now sharper around the top edge, making it harder to escape if players find themselves near the face.

TifEagle Bermuda grass has been used on the putting surfaces, with the greens set to sit lower to their surroundings. Furthermore, several greens are now larger, providing more options for hole locations.

Scheffler will hope the changes to the Tour Championship venue suit him better than East Lake’s set-up has in the past.
