Scottie Scheffler is a class above right now, as proven by his latest success at The Open Championship.
Scheffler outclassed every other player in majors this year, winning both The Open and the PGA Championship.
It follows his titles at The Masters in 2022 and 2024, with world number one Scheffler able to complete the career grand slam at next year’s US Open.
And while Scheffler is not motivated by the career grand slam, his form has drawn comparisons to the youngest player to ever achieve that feat.
Scheffler has matched Tiger Woods’ 2000 campaign this season, with the latter having completed the career grand slam that year aged just 24.

Rich Lerner thinks only one PGA Tour player can rival Scottie Scheffler
But the former is now in a world of his own, although Golf Channel host Rich Lerner believes one PGA Tour player can still rival the American.
He said on the Dan Patrick Show: “The guys who famously had some success against Tiger would be Ed Fiori, but Tiger was 20 years old at that point. They were mostly journeymen.
“Think about Bob May at the PGA Championship at Valhalla who took Tiger to a playoff. Think about Rocco Mediate, Tiger on one good leg at Torrey Pines in the 08 US Open.
“I would say in fairness to Phil Mickelson, he won the PGA Championship in 2005, he won a Masters in 2006 and 2010.
“He shot 64 to Tiger’s 75, I’ll never forget it, in 2012 at Pebble Beach in the final round. Yes, he slipped on that banana peel but there was a point in time where Phil figured out how to play against Tiger and how to beat him on occasion.
“Vijay [Singh] too. He was a hard man, he won nine times in 2004 at a point where nobody thought anybody but Tiger could be number one and he became number one.
“But at this point I think Rory [McIlroy] is the best bet. He is 36. But after that I don’t see anybody currently who looks like they are at Scottie’s level.”
2025 PGA Tour top 10 finishes leaders as Scottie Scheffler reigns supreme
McIlroy did indeed taste major success in 2025 alongside Scheffler, taking the green jacket off the defending champion at The Masters.
And it is the Northern Irishman who is the American’s closest rival in terms of PGA Tour wins this season, and indeed in the Official World Golf Ranking.

World number one Scheffler has four wins to his name, with world number two McIlroy second in the list with three.
But again The Open champion’s superiority is proven with his results this season, with Scheffler posting 13 top 10 finishes, representing the only player in double figures.
| Rank | Player | Top 10 | 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
| 1 | Scottie Scheffler | 13 | 4 | 1 | 1 |
| 2 | Russell Henley | 9 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| 3 | Ben Griffin | 8 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| 3 | Rory McIlroy | 8 | 3 | 1 | 0 |
| 5 | Justin Thomas | 7 | 1 | 3 | 0 |
There are four PGA Tour youngsters who could challenge Scheffler, as opposed to the more experienced McIlroy, but that is perhaps an even bigger ask.
The four-time major winner boasts a phenomenal skill set and an unparalleled mental strength, and looks certain to rapidly improve upon his 17 PGA Tour wins sooner rather than later.
