Scottie Scheffler is now a four-time major champion after his incredible win at The Open Championship.
Scheffler is the dominant force in world golf right now and let’s be honest, he has been for quite some time now hasn’t he?
His win at The Open was a quintessential Scheffler performance. He made one error on the eighth hole where he made a double bogey but aside from that, he didn’t give his opponents a chance.
After lifting the Claret Jug, Scheffler thanked the fans at The Open for all the support he received.
He is a hugely popular figure in the game, in spite of his now infamous stoicism.
Despite his comments pre-tournament suggesting that he doesn’t get fulfilment in life from winning golf tournaments, he definitely cared about reigning victorious at Royal Portrush.
Scheffler said he was desperate to win The Open, when speaking to Wayne Riley out on the course towards the end of his final round.
But does that desperation translate to the Grand Slam?
Scottie Scheffler says if he cares about winning the Grand Slam after his Open win
Scheffler is now on the cusp of achieving golfing immortality.
Only six players in the history of the game have won all four major championships.
So is he now focused on becoming the seventh man to join that elite club?

Scheffler was asked by Sky Sports reporter Tim Barter if he actually cares about the prospect of winning the Grand Slam.
He said: “It would be very cool but that’s not what motivates me at the end of the day. I am just trying to get the best out of myself and looking forward to the challenge of trying to continue to play professional golf and every week is different.
“This week I was the best player but the beauty is we have to tee it up in Memphis again in a couple of weeks and we start all over, back at even par.“
He was then asked what he felt when he walked up the 18th fairway in the knowledge that he was about to become Open champion.
Scheffler replied: “It was a pretty special feeling being able to walk up that 18th hole knowing the tournament is kind of in hand, and I got a great reception from the crowd there walking up 18. It was a pretty cool feeling.
“You have definitely seen that walk before and it’s tough to describe what that feels like but a lot of gratitude and a lot of thankfulness. It was a long and challenging week but we are fortunate enough to be heading home with the trophy.“
But was he emotional?
The world number one responded: “For sure. I have worked my whole life to be able to win this golf tournament and really just have a chance to even play in this golf tournament so to be able to tap in on 18 and have the tournament won is pretty cool.“
Scheffler was then asked during his press conference if he has allowed his mind to wander to next year’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills:
“I mean, no, I just got off the golf course a few minutes ago. That’s one of those funny things that I think, since Rory accomplished that this year, it’s on the front of everybody’s mind, just because it is such an historic accomplishment in the game of golf. What a tremendous thing for Rory to be able to accomplish. To win all four major championships is pretty dang special. It’s for sure a career achievement.
“Like I said, I don’t focus too much on that stuff. When this season ends after the Ryder Cup for me, I’ll get home, and I’ll assess kind of where my game’s at and things I can improve on and then kind of go from there. I don’t think about winning tournaments. I just look at the body of work I have and just think about ways to improve.“
Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour record
Scheffler is well on course to become an absolute legend of the game.
To be honest, if he stopped playing today, he would unquestionably go down as a top-20 player of all time.
His career record makes for extremely impressive reading.
| Results | Scheffler’s totals |
| Events played | 146 |
| Major wins | 4 |
| Wins | 17 |
| Top-5s | 52 |
| Top-10s | 72 |
| Missed cuts | 19 |
The challenge now for Scheffler will be to continue his current win-rate for the next 10 years or so, and if he manages to do that, he will be one of the greatest of all time.
Scheffler will almost certainly win the Grand Slam one day; it’s just a matter of when that will happen.
