The PGA Championship is now underway, and we will soon see whether everyone’s predictions were smart or foolish.
Most people expect the winner to be one of three favorites, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau, with each in top form.
But the field for the PGA Championship is so strong that many players could spring a surprise at Quail Hollow.
Before the tournament started, golf expert Rex Hoggard surprisingly wrote off a three-time major winner from winning this week.

Rex Hoggard thinks Jordan Spieth has no chance at PGA Championship
Jordan Spieth has not won a major since the 2017 Open Championship, so it is easy to reason why he won’t add to his tally at Quail Hollow.
But to completely rule him out seems extremely harsh, considering he’s still a world-class player and in solid form this season.
The 31-year-old finished fourth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson two weeks ago and tied for 14th at the last major, The Masters.
Hoggard did say that Spieth could play well this week, just that the course won’t allow him to finish at the top of the leaderboard.
“One of the other punts we did was, Who’s going to leave here disappointed? And I went with Jordan Spieth,” he explained. “I know that breaks your heart.
“I was quick to caveat this and say, I can see him playing well and posting a good number this week. Maybe even a top 10.
“But no, I don’t think he has any chance of winning here. And that means he’s going to have to wait another year to have a chance at the career Grand Slam.
“It’s not heartbreaking, but I think when you put it in context, he knows that even in his peak form, when he was at his absolute best, this would not have been the type of test that he’s best at.”
Jordan Spieth needs PGA Championship victory to emulate Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy finally completed the career Grand Slam last month with his incredible victory at The Masters.
The Northern Irishman had needed to win at Augusta National for the last 11 years to achieve the feat, and it was seemingly a relief to all involved in golf to see him do it.
It’s almost been forgotten that another player is only one major championship away from joining the likes of McIlroy and Tiger Woods on the elite list.
Jordan Spieth career major wins
| Year | Major | Score | Margin |
| 2015 | The Masters | -18 | 4 strokes |
| 2015 | US Open | -5 | 1 stroke |
| 2017 | Open Championship | -12 | 3 strokes |
Spieth already has The Masters, the US Open, and the Open Championship on his CV, so the PGA Championship is all that’s missing.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to see players complete the career Grand Slam in back-to-back tournaments?
