There’s not much left to say about Scottie Scheffler after his exceptional performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler delivered a knockout blow to his opponents on day one with his 10-under-par 61, and he never looked back after that.
After his victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the irrepressible Scheffler has a win percentage of 10.1% from 139 PGA Tour events played.
Interestingly, the man sitting above him on that list is McIlroy.
The Northern Irishman has been in scintillating form in 2025, winning three times including his stunning victory at The Masters last month.

After the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson ended, Jordan Spieth said that Scheffler and McIlroy are the two men to beat in professional golf right now.
He’s not wrong there.
The world’s two best golfers could be set for one of the most memorable major battles at the PGA Championship in two week’s time.
Scottie Scheffler makes admission after Rory McIlroy’s Masters win
Scheffler had to put the green jacket on McIlroy’s shoulders at Augusta National back in April.
And you know just how much that would have hurt the 28-year-old American deep down.
Scheffler is a very humble man, and is always gracious in defeat, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not incredibly competitive.
The two-time major winner spoke to reporters after his win at TPC Craig Ranch on Sunday, and responded when asked whether’s McIlroy’s win at Augusta inspired him.
The CJ Cup Byron Nelson champion said, “I think any time somebody has beaten any of us out here, I think we’re all — I guess you could say inspired, but I think we’re all fired up to come out here and compete. I think that’s what’s great about our game. Week in and week out, we get to come out here and compete. This week I was the best player. I have the week off, and we’ll see the week after who is the best player at the PGA.

“Rory has been playing some tremendous golf this year. The career grand slam was really special to watch. I was glad to be able to be there for it. I think any time you’re getting beat, you’re always fired up just a little bit extra to go out and practice. I feel like my game is trending in a good direction. I’m excited to start the rest of the season.“
The fcat that Scheffler has been fired up to practice even harder over the past few weeks is very bad news for his rivals.
And he’s already proven just how dominant he could become once again with his win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler vs McIlroy head-to-head stats
It’s clear that Scheffler and McIlroy are the two best players in the world right now.
Bryson DeChambeau is playing some exceptional golf as well, but we can’t judge him as well as the other two because he’s only playing three-round tournaments with weaker fields.
How do Scheffler’s numbers compare to McIlroy’s this season though?
| 2025 PGA Tour stats | Scheffler’s ranking | McIlroy’s ranking |
| Strokes gained total | 2nd | 1st |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 6th | 1st |
| Strokes gained putting | 44th | 10th |
| Strokes gained approach to green | 4th | 19th |
| Greens in regulation % | 8th | 55th |
| Scrambling | 1st | 5th |
| Bogey avoidance | 1st | 6th |
| Driving distance | 78th | 3rd |
| Scoring average | 1st | 2nd |
Those numbers are hugely impressive from both men.
And 2025 could end up being a memorable one with Scheffler and McIlroy going head-to-head for the biggest trophies during the remainder of the season.
