Ludvig Aberg fought off Maverick McNealy to win The Genesis Invitational and it looks like the tournament might have been a turning point for the PGA Tour.

The Swedish superstar fought from behind to win down the stretch as his birdie on 18 ensured he picked up his second PGA Tour win of what is promising to be a superb career.

Naturally, Aberg’s win felt like a big moment and even with Tiger Woods not playing, the tournament had a number of stories helping it along the way.

Notably, Rory McIlroy fell away from contention, while Scottie Scheffler’s bad habits of old kept him away from challenging in the end.

All those things, coupled with Aberg’s comeback win, led to a more interesting event and with the viewing figures now in, it looks like good news for the PGA Tour.

Genesis Invitational viewing figures confirmed

The PGA Tour has been coming under major scrutiny in recent times with fans complaining heavily about the viewing experience.

Indeed, fans slammed the CBS coverage at the Genesis as that trend continued.

However, in what appears to be an upturn in fortunes for the PGA Tour, journalist Josh Carpenter has now confirmed big viewing figures for the final round of the Genesis.

How LIV Golf Adelaide’s TV numbers compared to The Genesis

One of the big talking points in golf right now is how LIV Golf don’t seem to be able to attract the numbers the PGA Tour does.

Last week saw one of LIV’s biggest events – LIV Adelaide – take place.

And while the tournament was excellent to be around if on the ground and at the event, it seems that the numbers on TV still don’t close to the PGA Tour’s efforts with The Genesis.

Per the popular golf account @NuclrGolf, it seems that while LIV certainly picked up on the previous event’s effort, it still fell short of the Genesis.

This ongoing discussion around ratings and viewers is going to rumble on all season but after weeks of slander, it feels like the PGA Tour can breathe again.

With big events like the Arnold Palmer and the Players to come soon, the PGA will be confident of some big returns.
