Rick Shiels’ LIV Golf move has been confirmed, and YouTube Golf’s OG content creator will follow the Saudi-backed league around the globe over the next eight months.
After teasing fans over the past two weeks, Shiels announced on Friday evening that he is LIV’s first content creator signing. It’s fair to say he’s landed a dream gig.
Shiels will play every LIV Golf course in 2025 and will continue to produce content that fans know and love. Break 75 and his ten-shot challenge are going nowhere.
Furthermore, Shiels will play scrambles with some of LIV’s best players and host a new two-vs-two mini-league on his channel. First up is a match with Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka.
Peter Finch reacts to Rick Shiels LIV Golf news
Of course, given LIV Golf’s polarising nature, Shiels will face some criticism. Many will suggest that, with the formation of the PGA Tour’s Creator Council, similar opportunities would have emerged elsewhere.
Another YouTube stalwart, Peter Finch, participated in the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic at East Lake and has also filmed plenty of content alongside Shiels.
Given his place in social media, many will be eager to hear Finch’s reaction to Shiels’ LIV Golf decision.
However, taking to X on Friday evening, Finch’s typically dry humour was on show.
He wrote: “Just in off the course, did I miss anything?”
Six-time major winner Phil Mickelson also reacted to the news. “Awesome,” he wrote on X.

Shiels’ new LIV Golf colleagues, Joaquin Niemann and Ian Poulter, also send him messages on Instagram.
“Awesome to have you with us Rick, some fun content on the way,” wrote Poulter.
Niemann added: “Hey Rick Shiels, we just started our YouTube channel with my team Torgue GC. Now that we are going to be friends in LIV, can I get any advice from you about YouTube? We are nice guys.”
LIV Golf’s best signing of 2025
Shiels could well be LIV’s best signing of 2025. Adding YouTube’s best-known content creator could draw hundreds of thousands of new fans to the league, which is precisely what is required.
LIV, so far, have failed to sign a big-name player ahead of the 2025 season starting in Riyadh. Six-time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau was heavily linked before eventually shutting down the rumours.
Northern Irish star Tom McKibbin is one player who looks set to sign, however. McKibbin is close to joining Legion XIII and replacing Kieran Vincent on Jon Rahm’s roster.
McKibbin will sign a $5m contract with LIV, which is nearly double what he’s earned during his entire career thus far.
