Ludvig Aberg is finally a two-time PGA Tour champion, having emerged victorious at the Genesis Invitational.

Tiger Woods has praised Aberg, who has won at the Genesis Invitational 455 days after his first PGA Tour win.

That Aberg victory came at The RSM Classic in 2023, with the Swede winning by just one stroke for his second success.

Aberg called Torrey Pines ‘hard’, but he managed to card rounds of 74, 66, 70 and 66 to finish on 12-under.

Maverick McNealy was a close second on 11-under at Torrey Pines, with fellow Americans Patrick Rodgers and Scottie Scheffler tying for third on nine-under.

Ludvig Aberg aware of playing ‘too fast’ after Genesis Invitational win

Slow play is an issue that has dominated the PGA Tour in recent times, with its latest champion discussing that in his winning press conference.

Known as a very fast player, he was asked how he prevents himself from going too fast, and also from going too slow and breaking his normal rhythm.

“Yeah, that’s a good question,” he replied. “I sort of have the tendency to get a little bit fast at times. I could definitely feel when I made a putt on 15 that I’m like, you need to slow down a little bit, dude.

“I tried to breathe as much as I could coming down the last probably three, four holes just so like you said, you don’t want to rush things.

“Although I am fast, I just want to walk faster, talk faster, do all these things faster. I feel like I’ve gotten better at it lately, but it’s still a skill and it’s really difficult. I like to keep it fast, but sometimes it gets a little too fast.”

Ludvig Aberg left disappointed with no PGA Tour wins in 2024

Aberg was hugely impressive throughout 2024, but the Ryder Cup hero somehow failed to land himself a title.

The Swede finished second to world number one Scheffler at the Masters, along with second and T2 finishes at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and BMW Championship respectively.

But hard work in the off-season has helped him to a very strong start to 2025, with Aberg having kicked things off by finishing T5 at The Sentry.

The 25-year-old then finished T42 at the Farmers Insurance Open and withdrew during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but now has a title in just his fourth appearance.

Asked what having a win at this stage of the season means for the rest of the year, Aberg responded: “Yeah, it’s really nice getting off to a good start.

“Obviously the season is long, but all we try to do is play as good as we can and prepare as good as we can for every tournament.

“Yeah, like you said, it sort of takes away a lot of the early pressures, if you will. You don’t have to chase things.

“Getting a win means a lot to me and that’s… I was pretty bummed I didn’t get to win a tournament last year, but it’s really nice to be able to do it again. It’s almost addicting to walk down those last couple holes and just want to do it again.”
