Jordan Spieth remains one of the biggest names on the PGA Tour and after slowly making his return from wrist surgery, the three-time major winner has now announced a surprise return to the fairways.
Spieth played at the WM Phoenix Open and did well, finishing in a tie for fourth and looking very much like he was back near his best.
Spieth also teed it up at The Genesis last week and looked way off it, missing the cut.
Spieth admitted he was struggling with the wrist injury again after The Genesis, and he wasn’t expected to be seen on TOUR until the Arnold Palmer in a few weeks’ time.
However, in a surprise turn of events, Spieth has now confirmed he’ll be in action before Bay Hill.

Jordan Spieth commits to playing on the PGA Tour before The Arnold Palmer Invitational
The next event on the PGA Tour circuit is the Cognizant Classic over in South Florida.
Very much a mid-level PGA Tour event, the field was confirmed last night, with the biggest names being the likes of Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel.
However, just minutes after the official field was announced, the PGA Tour communications account on X then posted again, this time to confirm that Jordan Spieth had been added to the field.
Spieth’s inclusion was bad news for up and coming star Karl Vilips, who was initially due to tee it up.
What Jordan Spieth said his handicap would be after his wrist surgery
We’ve seen in the last few weeks how Spieth’s game can fluctuate between the brilliant and the not so good and that seems to be a theme for golfers coming back from injuries.
| Strokes gained category | Jordan Spieth’s 2024 PGA Tour rank |
| Off the tee | 15th |
| Tee to green | 71st |
| Approach play | 138th |
| Around the green | 108th |
| Putting | 101st |
| Total | 80th |
Spieth’s wrist injury was clearly causing issues for him last season. His results said it all.
However, it is understandable, and Spieth admitted he’d be a four or six handicap player if he judged it off his initial return to the game.
“If we go back to two weeks before Pebble, I was legit a 4-6 handicapper,” Spieth said. “I would have gotten four a side from the pros and it would have been a good match.
“So the meteoric rise from then until now has been some of the most impressive improvement in my game I have ever had, but it’s not saying a whole lot, as I started lower than I had when I was probably nine.”
Spieth is clearly hoping to play himself into some sort of form at the Cognizant in the hope of putting himself in contention for the Arnold Palmer.
