Jordan Spieth could not follow up his return to form at the WM Phoenix Open last week as he missed the cut at The Genesis in tough conditions at Torrey Pines.
Spieth is fighting his way back from wrist surgery and looked somewhere near being back to his best at TPC Scottsdale last week.
However, in tough windy conditions and slightly colder weather at Torrey, Spieth struggled and finished at six over for his two rounds to miss the cut.
Spieth, of course, will be disappointed.
But more worryingly, he has also suggested that his wrist problem hasn’t fully gone away.

Jordan Spieth makes fresh injury admission after missing the cut at The Genesis
Speaking to the media after missing the cut at Torrey Pines, Spieth admitted his wrist was giving him problems this week and ultimately, he needs to rest it to get things sorted.
“It’s been a tough week on the wrist,” Spieth admitted. “I wasn’t sure if I’d hit one more shot like my shot on 16 yesterday, I wasn’t going to finish the first round. I was OK to go today, but this cold, wet weather and third week in a row, it was not good for it.”
“It beat it up pretty good, but I’m hoping this next week, laying off of it for five or six days and working on it with therapy — it’s just inflammation so hopefully it will just go away and this will end up being a good thing that I kind of pushed it.”
Jordan Spieth’s past Torrey Pines worries come back to haunt him
Torrey Pines is a tough golf course in any conditions but add in the wind, rain and cold weather, and it suddenly becomes one of the toughest in the world.
For Spieth, it was a big shame to miss a cut after doing so well at TPC Scottsdale.
Indeed, Spieth spoke about how tough Torrey was back in 2021 and those issues seemed to haunt him again in 2025.
“It’s tough anyway in January, right? Then it’s normally maybe some more moisture, but it’s obviously higher — around the greens, it’s wicked. Spotters are going to have to really be on their game because, around the greens, you can hit some shots five feet off the edge of the green and really have to look hard to find your ball,” Spieth said.
| Strokes gained category | Jordan Spieth’s 2024 PGA Tour rank |
| Off the tee | 15th |
| Tee to green | 71st |
| Approach play | 138th |
| Around the green | 108th |
| Putting | 101st |
| Total | 80th |
“Then the rough, it seems like there’s some graduated rough on some holes, and even that first cut on 12 and like 14 are the two that come to mind, even the first cut is mowed into you. So there’s not a whole lot you can do. You’re not really advancing more than a 7-iron for a lot of those lies; just trying to tumble it down the fairway.”
Spieth will now go away and rest before teeing it up at the Arnold Palmer in a few weeks.
