Jordan Spieth fell well short in his efforts to complete the career grand slam at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Rex Hoggard thought Spieth had no chance of a PGA Championship win, and that quickly proved true after he missed the cut.

Spieth ended his first two rounds of the PGA Championship on two-over, with the cut line having been set at one-over.

His opening round five-over 76 did the damage, but the 13-time PGA Tour winner impressively recovered with a second round three-under 68.

Spieth practised on the range after his missed cut, clearly not happy with his performance in the second major championship of the season.

Jordan Spieth praised for his wedge game despite missing PGA Championship cut

But he has drawn praise after the tournament, with Michael Kim having taken on a Q&A on X with fellow PGA Tour players Ben Griffin and Tom Kim.

Asked by a fan to build the perfect golfer using driver, irons, wedges and putter, he replied: “Driver – Bryson [DeChambeau], irons – Scottie [Scheffler], wedge – Spieth, putter – TW (Tiger Woods).

The Q&A trio all made the cut to play the weekend, with Griffin finishing T8 as Michael Kim and Tom Kim finished T55 and 71 respectively.

What Michael Kim thinks of Rory McIlroy’s media rejections at the PGA Championship

Spieth will likely be very disappointed with his efforts in North Carolina, having perhaps been under unnecessary extra pressure.

He recently witnessed Rory McIlroy complete the career grand slam at The Masters, with Spieth and Phil Mickelson the two players closest to following suit.

Spieth has won The Masters, the US Open and The Open Championship throughout his superb career so far, but has only ever managed to finish runner-up at the PGA Championship.

Also enduring a very frustrating week was McIlroy, who failed to replicate his Augusta National heroics at Quail Hollow.

The Northern Irishman finished T47, and came under fire for failing to carry out any media duties at the PGA Championship.

Sharing his take on the five-time major champion, Kim commented: “Weird, he’s always been really open with media.”

The one-time PGA Tour winner was also asked who he would like to be paired with purely for entertainment, with Kim replying: “Si Woo [Kim].”

Si Woo Kim took T8 in North Carolina, with a stunning 252-yard hole-in-one among his achievements during the week.

But it is Scottie Scheffler who is rightfully stealing the limelight, winning his first PGA Championship and third major overall.
