With Jordan Spieth coming back to form at the WM Open, there’s now plenty of optimism that he could finally get back onto the winner’s board in 2025.

Spieth is without a win since 2022 but came back to life at TPC Scottsdale to finish in a tie for fourth and 16 under par behind winner, Thomas Detry.

Spieth showed signs of his very best during the final round as he scrambled with some remarkable shots at times. Indeed, Billy Horschel labelled Spieth as ‘unreal’ after one particular shot into the green.

However, while it was nice to see Spieth back, there was also a feeling of missed opportunity as well.

Spieth failed to hole a few big putts and kept putting himself in difficult positions which ultimately allowed Detry to run away with it.

And according to experienced caddie Billy Foster, Spieth simply wouldn’t have let Detry off so lightly back when he was at his best.

Jordan Spieth told he’s not as good as he once was in one key aspect of golf

Foster – who is Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddie – was in the commentary booth for Sky Sports and got onto the subject of Spieth just coming up short.

And according to Foster, if Spieth could putt like he used to, then he’d have been closer to winning.

“The Spieth of old, he’s just played the two par 5s and not made birdies,” Foster commented. “The Jordan of old would be 18 under by now and putting the heat on Detry but luckily for Thomas, he’s not quite the putter he once was.

“He’ll be back though.”

How good Jordan Spieth was at putting back in 2015

2015 was the year when Jordan Spieth announced himself to golf really as he won two majors and finished second in the PGA Championship to go close to making it three in the season.

Key that year was how good Spieth was with his putter. Indeed, during the year, he holed some huge putts and had some memorable moments and stats.

In 2015, Spieth led the PGA Tour in a number of putting categories including one-putt percentage, putts per round, and putts per green in regulation.

He also had the best percentage of putts made from between 15 and 25 feet, while he also set his own record of putts made by holing out for a total of 432 feet at the 2015 TOUR Championship.

If Spieth can get back to some sort of level close to that, then that first win since 2022 won’t be far away.
